“Beautiful Hana !! This town is a real...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 August 2010 via mobile

Beautiful Hana !! This town is a real gem, although not for the tourist who needs to be entertained by big shows and tours.
Hale Kukuna II was our escape from touristy Maui. We enjoyed 5 days in Hana and took in the sights around that area, did lots of hiking and ate the best Thai food ever! The place is located off the main road through town although you would not know it at night, all us quite. We had no trouble with the dog barking across the road.
The kitchen has all that you need to make great meals, the house is perfect for sharing between two couples and best of all .. The sun rises into your bedroom window, man do we miss that ! Beds are comfortable, great rainmaker shower and big tub.
All in all a lovely place to stay and priced within the average range for the area, but not as pricey as the Hana Hotel.

“What a fabulous experience in lovely Hana!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 February 2010

My husband and I travel to Maui frequently to visit my parents We have been wanting to return to Hana and spend more time exploring, so I did alot of research online to fing a place where the 4 of us would be comfortable. Our age range is 49-82 My parents have stayed at the Hana Hotel and loved it, but we didn't want to spend that much. After much emailing back and forth with various properties, I settled on Hale Kukuna II, the upstairs unit. We were not disappointed in any way!
The home is lovely, spacious and very clean. 2 large bedrooms with king size beds and each has it's own beautiful unique bathroom.
The kitchen was amazing! All you need if you want to cook, I mean everything, even a food processor and a well stocked spice rack!
Ceiling fans, nice deck with tables and chairs, sound system.
This made a great base from which to explore Hana.
We did alot of hiking and eating! We would absolutely stay here again and recommend it 100%!!!

“Modern, but on a busy road.”

This is an upstairs/downstairs duplex overlooking a fish pond and with a keyhole view of the bay. Modern and large with all the amenities. Lots of ceiling fans to keep cool. We're in the downstairs unit. Great to have a grill and a large fully stocked kitchen. Place is on a busy road, however. Not a problem at night, but there is a 7am "rush hour". Mosquitoes are an issue anywhere in East Maui, and I assume the fishpond has fish. Area has the feel of an upscale suburb, but most of Hana's lodging is in this neighborhood.

“Renter Beware”

We just returned from the Hamlet of Hana - not so much a town as a crossroads. The area around Hana is a tropical paradise of beachs and waterfalls, but this home is certainly not "paradise". The "koi pond" that sits below it is a mosquito magnet. We could not sit outside during our four day stay without being munched on. Also, this home has no air conditioning. After hiking & swimming all day to return to the sticky confines of Hale Kukuna was not pleasant. Have never rented a home before that did not have A/C or laundry facilities. Sweat dripping into the tub, we did our laundry in the jacuzzi. Take the Road to Hana, but do not stay here.

“Hale Kukuna II”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2008

We recently took the "Road to Hana" and stayed at the Hale Kukuna II in the town of Hana for three nights. The home was adequate and was quite clean. It is an upstairs unit with another unit below. The condo overlooks a fishpond and has a view of the ocean. There are several other rental units surrounding the same pond. The facility had two very nice bedrooms with sliding doors that provided adequate ventilation at night. One bedroom had a walk-in shower and the other had a tub. We enjoyed the condo but were annoyed by the constant barking of the neighbor's dog. This was not the fault of the people that we were renting from, but was that of the dog's owners on the adjacent property.

We really enjoyed the beautiful sights found on the way to Hana. The waterfalls in the area are spectacular and we had a great time trying to locate the small churchyard where Charles Lindbergh is buried. My husband said that this section of the road was far more treacherous than the road to Hana, itself.

We spent three days relaxing and viewing the sights around this very small town. There is not a great deal to see, but it was nice to slow down and just relax as we were halfway through our whirlwind three week tour of the islands. Hale Kukuna II is a nice place to stay if you go to Hana.
