Serenity, tranquility, utter relaxation. If your aim in coming to Maui is to hang in resorts, get bound up in traffic, and mingle with hoards of tourists, then this isn't the place for you; on the other hand, if you're up for the distant roar of surf, the soothing twitters of morning birds, the peace and quiet that solitude brings, then step up to the Hana Cabana. An utter delight. Save a few bucks and take yourself down to Koki Beach, pick up a slab of ahi, and sear it on the porchside grill: a fully equipped kitchen fulfills whatever you may need. Get up early and stroll the paths through their flower and fruit farm. Maybe snag a papaya for breakfast. Rebecca and Mike are helpful, friendly (and mostly invisible) hosts. This was the high point of our 12-day Maui vacation. Wish we had stayed longer than our three days.
