“Lusciously Romantic Cottage Ideal for Couples”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 February 2011

My wife and I spent five days at this wonderful, tropical property and loved every minute. In order not to be repetitive, I will not give a detailed description of it since I agree with prior guests.

However, I would like to emphasize that it is important to remember to use insect repellent when you are wandering the grounds, barbecuing, or using the outdoor washer/dryer, and to make sure the screened door remains closed so as to not allow mosquitos to enter the cottage.

If you are looking for a relaxing stay and don't need the services provided by a hotel then by all means stay at this sparkling clean, beautifully decorated and ideally located vacation rental. You'll be glad you came and look forward to the day you can return.

“Better than advertised”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2011

We weren't quite sure what to think of sleeping in an open air bungalow, but were very pleased we chose this place. Only real complaint was the futon feel of the king bed which was not very comfortable to us.

This place was out of town a couple miles, which made us feel safer and secluded. The grounds were incredible and you can tell every detail and amenity was considered.

We heard waves in the distance at night, and could see the ocean in the distance through the trees.

After doing a ton of research for lodging in Hana, we enjoyed driving by all the places we called on the phone. There are quite a few in the same area of Hana Bay in a residential area, but many were not operating for various reasons.

Very close to Hamoa Bay, which had a great beach. I don't know why you would walk there since you can drive around the corner in just a few moments and the walk is down a road (not a nice path or something).

Aloha and thanks for your wonderful review. We are always happy to hear how much people enjoy this stellar setting and peaceful accommodations. I am sorry that you did not find the bed comfortable and appreciate you telling us about it. I do want to let you know that we have replaced the mattresses on the beds in both the House and Bungalow. We want our guests to be very comfortable and to sleep soundly in this lovely, quiet environment. Now you can have the soothing sounds of the waves on the beach AND a comfortable bed. I do hope you will return and give the new beds a try. Mahalo, Robin

“A piece of paradise . . .”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 January 2011

I spent a week here in December 2010 and it wasn’t nearly long enough!

In 1 phrase – a piece of paradise for 1 or 2 – located on a large, private lot surrounded by BEAUTIFUL plants and flowers. I have traveled a fair amount (including a half dozen visits to Hawaii) and this property is my favorite so far!

Very romantic setting and surroundings. Very close to a “wilderness” location, yet with all the comforts of home I could ask for – even cable TV, a small book library, a few DVDs and a backgammon game. Extremely private location with lots of birds and butterflies. Easy access to beaches.

Kitchen is fully equipped and furnishings very comfortable. Among its many wonderful features were: an outside shower ( with hot water), a LARGE jetted tub on an enclosed deck - part of a spacious screened in porch - and a hammock for 2 on the lower level! Guests have access to a washer/dryer in a separate building - shared with a full sized home on the property. Each unit has its own driveway. Privacy was never an issue.

The manager, Robin, went out of her way to make sure everything went well. We had a short power outage, but the bungalow is well prepared to make it just a minor interruption.

Be sure and continue down the road to the 7 pools and if you enjoy hiking, take the trail to Waimoka Falls, as well as up to the Fagan cross above Hana itself.

Only “minor” negative are mosquitoes outdoors – they may be looking for an easy meal as clothing requirements are minimal! Not a problem in the bungalow itself though!

“A quiet retreat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2010

We recently stayed the the Hamoa Bay Bungalow in Hana for three nights during our honeymoon, and were very pleased with our stay. While no one would ever confuse Hana for a busy town, we weren't looking for that and had a wonderful time exploring the beautiful beaches in Hana and hiking at nearby Haleakala National Park. The Hamoa Bay Bungalow was exactly what we were looking for as a base. You really do feel like you are sleeping in a tropical tree house---both of us had a great experiencing sleeping in the mosquito netting while listening to the sounds of the jungle around us. While not a hotel, or a B&B, the Bungalow is set up so you can really enjoy the quiet around you. There are towels and other beach gear you can borrow, and many books you can flip through as well as a kitchen and grill at your fingertips. The Bungalow was just what we needed for an enjoyable and peaceful stay in beautiful Hana.

“Romantic, comfortable, tropical hideaway. Book it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 April 2010

This wonderful tropical hideaway is best described in contrasts. It is unabashedly romantic and undeniably practical. The high speed internet access and wifi as well as well as the fully equipped modern kitchen somehow seem to complement the lush rain forest vegetation that surrounds the house. The screened lanai and the many windows throughout the house emphasize openness and light. You get all the beauty of the outside indoors (without the bugs).

We've traveled the world -- four continents in the last two years -- and nowhere have we seen any place to compare to the Hamoa Bay House. Soaring high ceilings in the Great Room and master bedroom add a sense of space and freedom. Tasteful decorative touches from the ornate Balinese carved hearth to the sculptures in the garden and whimsical carvings in surprising places in the house and grounds contribute to the ambiance. The furnishings are comfortable and elegant. Waking up in the morning in the master bedroom with a view of the sea is glorious.

The kitchen, bathrooms and entertainment center have been better equipped than in any other vacation rental property we've seen in the US and abroad. From the quality of the cookware and dinnerware to the linens and towels, we have been impressed. There are little decorative touches everywhere that have added to our enjoyment - large anthurium leaves in a vase by the bedside and a miniature anthurium blossom on the kitchen workspace. There is a separate laundry house, itself charming and cleverly designed, stocked with detergents. Near that is an outdoor hot water shower with a lava rock privacy wall. We thoroughly enjoyed using it. That alone is worth the trip down the Hana highway.

The herb garden is a surprise amidst arrays of tropical shrubs and flowers: plumeria, trumpet flowers, bougainvillea and countless bromeliads . Stroll the grounds and discover a mammoth banyan tree and towering fruit bearing trees: mangoes, papayas, bananas and oranges. This morning, we had a luscious salad with fruit we gathered here - as delicious as it gets!

It's a short walk (or an even shorter drive) from the secluded house and bungalow to Hamoa Bay Beach, which James Michener considered to be the most perfect South Pacific beach.

Working with Robin, who manages the property, has been easy and efficient. She's been quick to respond by email and telephone. Her directions to the house were perfect.

Both the house and the bungalow are appealing. While we are staying in the house, we had an opportunity to look at the nearby bungalow. It has its own special romantic charm -- perfect for a tropical honeymoon. That said, we prefer the house and would recommend it over the bungalow if it's available. The difference in price is not that great and well worth it.

As much as we try, we realize that words - and even photographs -- can't really describe how wonderful this house is. We are planning to return and to stay longer on our next visit.
