“Great way to stay in Maui, worth a repeat trip.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2009

For about the same as a cheap motel with paper thin walls, you can get a much more
personalized, restful stay at Over Yonder B & B. The hostess, Neida, is very knowledgeable about the area and does a great job with her guests. We particularly
enjoyed the Hawaiian breakfasts-plenty of fresh local fruits, a variety of delicious banana breads and a pot of strong Kona coffee. The inn is a very airy, well lit house in a secluded
gulch with a great lanai (deck) that overlooks vegetation. The location is ideal, especially
its closeness to Haleakala NP. Haiku is minutes away and has lots of diverse restaurants of varying price range. Paia is similar and close by. Even the airport is only a 20-25 min. drive. If you want to drive to Hana or Lahaina, Over Yonder's in the middle.
There are 2 rooms, I recommend the Plumeria Suite, it has its own spacious bathroom
with a good- sized standing shower cabinet. Both rooms are street level so you don't
lug bags up any stairs. If you want to do any type of outdoor or other activity, Neida will get
you all the info you need to decide. She even helped my wife find a hair salon. We really
enjoyed our stay and think you will too.

“Looking for a Peaceful retreat - look no further!”

We stayed 4 nights with Neida at Over Yonder B&B and had a wonderful time. We enjoyed our leisurely breakfasts of cereals, fresh island fruit (some from Neida's own garden, freshly picked) and warm breads while watching the birds play in the bed bath outside the window. The setting was quiet and peaceful, and Neida's directions to find the home were easy to follow (I would recommend doing it in daylight for the first time, though, as the last main turn is easy to miss). Neida was a great hostess, and provided us with suggestions, maps and brochures about numerous things to do and places to eat.. When we booked she had recommended we book for a Luau early to ensure we got a seat - which we did and were pleased we had booked early as we had great seats. The cost of the B&B was very reasonable, and the surroundings much more relaxing than a large bustling hotel. You certainly need a car to stay there - but probably need one anyway to achieve much sightseeing on the island.
The B&B may seem to be in the middle of nowhere but is actually quite central. We chose it as it was close to the Haleakala crater and a cycling tour to the crater based at Haiku, and we then discovered it was also close to the Hana Highway and only 1/2 hour or so from the airport. Even to get to the Luau at Lahaina was only about an hour's drive.
We would heartily recommend the B&B, Neida as a lovely hostess, and her beautiful garden and peaceful setting.

“Quiet and comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2009

We were expecting a fat Swedish gramma to serve us fresh-baked waffles and omelettes. I don't know. Do you expect that when you hear "bed and breakfast?" Well, don't expect it here. The hostess is nice, don't get me wrong. She'll arrange a fresh-fruit platter for you and do your dishes. She'll even let you use her laundry facilities or her laptop for Internet if you ask nicely. The location is in the middle of nowhere. Don't forget your GPS if you have one. If you don't, borrow one! I can't forget to mention, though, she gave us 40% off the room rate because of the slow economic times. Kudos to Neida for that. Don't forget to pet her sweet dog.

“Good place which can be an ideal base to explore the whole Maui”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 March 2009

We spent 3 nights at Over Yonder Maui. Ha'iku is in the upcountry, at a good elevation which makes the nights very cool (even chilly at times) - so it might be an apt choice if it's too hot along the shoreline. Even though it might seem a bit "far", Ha'iku is actually maybe the most central place in Maui: Pa'ia is just 15 minutes away, the airport about 30, as the Kihei coast, and the upcountry if of course just there. There are also very good places to eat around Ha'iku and in Pa'ia.

The Over Yonder is in a residential area, very quiet, with tropical vegetations and with lots of domestic animals around. The B&B, of course, has it's own: Dodger, a soooo nice dog. The place is very well kept: at first I was surprised this was the first Hawaiian B&B which didn't require us to remove our shoes, but the inside was nevertheless really clean. The room (we were in the Plumeria Suite) was charming, and included a front lanai (which we actually didn't use, as it was quite cold in the evening, with rain as well). There's a big fridge guests can use, and free WiFi Internet access. The common area is huge and there's only one other guest room, so you actually have a full house for you.

One thing we really liked was the banana bread at breakfast. Too bad we were only able to have breakfast the last morning we stayed there (we had early wake ups for activities the other 2). Neida was a great host, giving us a lot of information regarding where to go, where to eat, and even giving us some brochures regarding O'ahu, our subsequent destination.

Overall, if you don't mind chilly nights and a bit of rain, I would definitely recommend staying in such a relaxing but really very central place. If you need to chose only one place where to sleep in Maui and you want to visit the whole island, this is likely the one.

Nestled in a beautiful tropical setting. With warm hospitality. Each morning we woke to a fragrant and beautiful breakfast. The rooms were very clean and cozy. The attached bathroom was clean and stocked with blow dryer, soaps etc.
