We stayed in the Cliffhouse at Pali Uli to finish off our honeymoon.
The place was fantastic. The house and grounds were spotless. The house is in a secluded area of the island, and you will be surrounded by nature. You'll see plenty of toads, snails, and gecko's. They like to hang out in the outdoor shower at night but they don't bother you.
This may not be for everyone. The nearest towns (Paia, Makawao) are about 15 minutes away, a lot of the islands tourist activities will be a decent drive away, there is no room service, it tends to rain a bit more, and the roads/surroundings are dark at night. Paia and Makawao are both worth visiting. We spent a lot of time in Paia and had dinner there a few times.
If you're looking for a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the beauty of Hawaii in your own private setting, then this is the place for you. We enjoyed Paia and spent a lot of time there; plenty of nightlife just 15 minutes down the road if you feel like getting out for a night. Makawao is also a great town to visit, especially if you're into art or just want to take a keepsake home with you. Mama's Fish House, Hookipa Beach, and the Road to Hana are all within minutes.
The views from the three back decks (one has a soaking tub and the other two patio furniture) are simply amazing. Morning is the best time to sit out here, as the afternoon winds are pretty strong. Wake up to catch the sunrise at least one morning during your stay, you won't be disappointed. Also be sure to walk the grounds and check out the garden area.
The pool was always clean and great for a quick refreshing dip. The house itself is not very large, but it has everything you'll need for your stay. You'll most likely want to sleep in the detached outside bedroom, we did. This gives you a bit more space to spread out. I've posted a few pictures. We would certainly come back to the Pali Uli estates.
