“Terrific Cottage, "away from it all"”

We stayed at Ho'okipa Hale the week between Christmas and New Years 2003-4. Even though it rained 7 days out of 8 this is a great place to stay. In spite of the unusual amount of rain this was a great vacation.
We just did all the "non beach" things there are to do on Maui. The cottage was spotless, and they have everything but a dishwasher. We had the use of a gas grill, beach towels, beach mats, coolers, and boogie boards. The cottage is away from all the touristy, busy places, and very peaceful. You will have to drive to get to any activities, but staying here you will be able to afford them. The location makes it a good "home base" for exploring the entire island. Especially the eastern end of the island. The owners are friendly and very helpful.
You will have the use of a washer and dryer in the main house.
Paragliders and Windsurfers take note, the cottage is halfway between Ho'okipa windsurfing beach and the Proflyght paragliding launch site.

My husband and I and our 2 children stayed at Hookipa Hale cottage for a week last March and we absolutely loved it!The cottage itself was comfortable and very clean. We ate out on the deck most nights and watched the sunsets and I especially enjoyed the tropical flowers and banana trees in the yard. It really made me feel like I was in the real hawaii. All in all it was exceptional quality and service. We had free use of snorkels, boogie boards, beach chairs etc which was very convenient and the owners gave us all sorts of useful tips about activities and where to go.I was a bit concerned about the lack of AC but there was always a nice breeze so we really didn't need it.We consider this quite a find and we are planning to come back next year with our parents and rent the rooms in the main house also.

“Tranquility in the Country”

My wife & I stayed in the cottage at Ho'okipa Hale for five nights. It is spotlessly clean and very well equipped. The TV, VCR and stereo system are of above average quality for a rental cottage and work well. The kitchen is well equipped and has all the appliances and gadgets with the exception of a dishwasher. Condiments, tea and coffee are supplied. The furnishings, beds and bedding are all of good quality and comfortable. There is a shady porch area for outside lounging, dining and BBQ'ing. All in all, this cottage is well equipped, clean and comfortable. It is located on a property of about 2 acres which also includes the owners home. The cottage is well back from the road so it is very quiet at all times. The village of Haiku is a five minute drive away and has most of the basic items a tourist requires. We found that we could commute to any part of Maui without much problem. This location is relatively central if you wish to see the whole island during your stay. The possible negatives are: the property grounds are poorly landscaped and maintained and there is no good place to go for a walk. When driving through the front gate onto the property, it almost looks as though it is an abandoned acreage. There are no outstanding views from the cottage. That said, if you are content to stay in the cottage or on the porch, this is a great rental cottage.
