We just got back home from our one week vacation in Maui today on Feb/9/2012, yet we have already started to miss everything from Windward Garden......
1. Hosts: Susan and Chris are incredibly friendly, easy going, and down to the earth. We felt home immediately.
2. Bed & Breakfast: sleep quality was EXCELLENT largely due to the peaceful surroundings. We woke up by birds' singing every morning. Susan and Chris make tasty and healthy breakfast at 8am every day. They were like mom and dad who would make sure that you eat well and plenty before you start your big day of adventure.
3. Location: We picked this location because it's in central Maui, and it would be convenient for us to go any direction, especially if you want to spend some quality time on the Hana side like us. If you stay on west Maui or south, taking the Road to Hana would make you get up super early like 5am in order to avoid the crowd.
4. Rooms: Windward Garden has three suites--Master Suite (with bathroom), August Suite and Ariel Suite (share two bathrooms), plus their recently opened newly renovated cottage. Originally, I was concerned about the "sharing bathroom" part because we had to book the August Suite due to availability. It turned out to be absolutely concern free because there are two bathrooms to share, and we never ran into other guests for bathroom issues. Our suite was super neat and cozy, and of course, if we had a lanai that overlooks the ocean.
5. Misc: if you are looking for resorts-like treat with swimming pool, beach-front, pool-side liquor service, party, crowd, etc, you should be keep looking for somewhere else. If you are looking for a minimally-commercialized place, country-style, super relaxing and laid-back environment, surprises from nature (such as a giant frog standing on the entrance stairways, and monstrous dragonflies catching mosquitoes for you right above your head ), and tranquil surroundings, you will be more than thrilled to choose this place.
Thank you Susan and Chris! We are sorry that we didn't get a chance to say goodbye on our departure day because of our ferry schedule to Moloka'i, but that also gave us an excuse to go visit your garden again sooner than later.
