This resort is not in keeping with Princeville standards and does not compare with the cleanliness and maintenance of the timeshares in which we have stayed. Most of the positive reviews have focused on the immaculate grounds and surrounding beauty of Princeville, NOT the unit itself. Our unit (Building 7, Unit 2) was a two-bedroom, split level with living, dining, kitchen, master bedroom, and full bath with laundry downstairs. The loft included a single bed and full bath upstairs. As one reviewer noted, it was easy to hear through the walls. The resort was difficult to find, especially at night. We were looking for a sign that said “Marc” instead of “Pali Ke Kua.” Even if we had found the correct sign, there were numerous buildings, and we had no idea where to go. After a long flight and drive, some locals directed us to the office, which was closed. Then, in our exhaustion, we had to wrestle with a lock box to get our keys.
This unit was not very clean or well maintained. The tile on the kitchen floor was cracked and the baseboards in the kitchen/dining area were filthy. The inside and outside areas of the refrigerator were dirty and the toaster contained numerous crumbs and was cruddy. There were stains on the dining room chairs. Kitchen lighting was inadequate, and one of the bulbs was burned out. The wooden cutting board was past its prime, and one wonders how much bacteria was lurking there. The cabinets were dirty, and the floors had not been swept. The glass end tables and coffee table were dusty and smudged. Lighting for reading was sparse, despite the assortment of well-worn paperback novels on the shelves. The walls were scuffed, and there were carpet stains. The closet doors in the bathroom were gunky and rickety. Lighting was inadequate, and the sink bowl had a large crack across it. The shower walls were in need of additional cleaning, and the toilet didn’t flush very well. One of the towels had what appeared to be blood or chocolate stains. During our stay, we observed ants in the kitchen and bathroom as well as two small lizards.
The positives? Well, Princeville, itself, of course. The view of Bali Hai and the plant life from our unswept lanai was beautiful, despite the cheap plastic table and chairs. Our unit was a short walk to a stunning view of the ocean. Our bed was comfortable. The carpet appeared to be fairly new. The friendliness of the front desk staff was impressive.
Given that the negatives outweigh the positives so dramatically, we cannot recommend the Marc at Princeville Pali Ke Kua at this time.
