“Heaven on Earth”

We booked condo 109 through Marc Resorts. We were a little nervous when we called to confirm and it had changed owners, but they were very reassuring and helpful. We chose this place based on reviews of the view and private beach. We were awestruck. The room could have been a dump and we would have been happy. Well, it wasn't a dump. It was very clean, nicely decorated, very comfortable. Only complaint would be that if you have the patio doors open or are on the lanai and the upstairs neighbors do as well, you can hear them crystal clear. There was a family with young kids staying upstairs so some nights were especially loud. But since we have a young son ourselves it was also a little amusing. Overall, I can't imagine a more beautiful view and the private beach was great for snorkeling and relaxing!

“Old and Dirty”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2009

This resort is not in keeping with Princeville standards and does not compare with the cleanliness and maintenance of the timeshares in which we have stayed. Most of the positive reviews have focused on the immaculate grounds and surrounding beauty of Princeville, NOT the unit itself. Our unit (Building 7, Unit 2) was a two-bedroom, split level with living, dining, kitchen, master bedroom, and full bath with laundry downstairs. The loft included a single bed and full bath upstairs. As one reviewer noted, it was easy to hear through the walls. The resort was difficult to find, especially at night. We were looking for a sign that said “Marc” instead of “Pali Ke Kua.” Even if we had found the correct sign, there were numerous buildings, and we had no idea where to go. After a long flight and drive, some locals directed us to the office, which was closed. Then, in our exhaustion, we had to wrestle with a lock box to get our keys.

This unit was not very clean or well maintained. The tile on the kitchen floor was cracked and the baseboards in the kitchen/dining area were filthy. The inside and outside areas of the refrigerator were dirty and the toaster contained numerous crumbs and was cruddy. There were stains on the dining room chairs. Kitchen lighting was inadequate, and one of the bulbs was burned out. The wooden cutting board was past its prime, and one wonders how much bacteria was lurking there. The cabinets were dirty, and the floors had not been swept. The glass end tables and coffee table were dusty and smudged. Lighting for reading was sparse, despite the assortment of well-worn paperback novels on the shelves. The walls were scuffed, and there were carpet stains. The closet doors in the bathroom were gunky and rickety. Lighting was inadequate, and the sink bowl had a large crack across it. The shower walls were in need of additional cleaning, and the toilet didn’t flush very well. One of the towels had what appeared to be blood or chocolate stains. During our stay, we observed ants in the kitchen and bathroom as well as two small lizards.

The positives? Well, Princeville, itself, of course. The view of Bali Hai and the plant life from our unswept lanai was beautiful, despite the cheap plastic table and chairs. Our unit was a short walk to a stunning view of the ocean. Our bed was comfortable. The carpet appeared to be fairly new. The friendliness of the front desk staff was impressive.

Given that the negatives outweigh the positives so dramatically, we cannot recommend the Marc at Princeville Pali Ke Kua at this time.

“Dazzled by Marc at Princeville!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2008

First I must confess I am extremely bias to anything in Princeville, I have stayed at several locations, Marc Hale Moi Cottages and Marc Pali Ke Kua as well as the Princeville Resort and Hanalei Bay Resort.

My opinion on where to stay in Princeville changes based on what you want to do. The views from Paki Ke Kua are by far the best and it is right next to the Saffron restaurant! The advantage of staying at the Marc Hale Moi is that you have beach access and a tennis court. Although the pool at the Hanalei Bay Resort is VERY unique the views from the rooms are hit an miss (sorry to make this a comparison) of course the Princeville Resort itself is extremely luxurious but was not in my budget for this trip.

This trip I am in Unit 225, very clean open unit on the second floor second to the last from the end. I booked through Marc Resorts website and got their eFare which was quite economical (http://MarcResorts.com). I am right now on the balcony watching the Surfers and Paddle-boarders below. Yesterday we saw a very large turtle in the water just below our unit, just waiting for everyone to get ready and then we are off to hike the trail along the Napali coast!

“Condos perfect for a family”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 October 2008

Stayed in August with my family of 4. The condo we received was separate from the other units, very close the the pool and restaurant. The grounds are beautiful with lots of trees and green grass. You can walk down a steep, paved path to one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen. We had a view of Bali Hai and 4 waterfalls from the dining area. The unit had an loft with a bunk bed and a bathroom, perfect for the kids. Full kitchen with dishes/pots/pans, living room & dining room. The drawback to this unit is it doesn't get a lot of breeze flowing through and ends up a little warm with all the windows. No A/C, but fans kept us mostly cool. Quick drive to the north shore beaches or the Kilauea lighthouse. Front desk is open very short hours, but enables check-in with a lock box. Booked through Expedia as the Marc Resorts at Princeville. Remember the Pali Ke Kua name because that's what the sign on the street says.

“Great secluded place, very friendly stuff”

We stayed here on August 19-August 22, 2008. It's a wonderfull place, in a very beautiful condo complex on a golf course. Very conveniently located on the north shore - easy to travel both east and west. Their own beach is very nice too, both for swimming and snorkeling. But you cannot use it in the first part of the day (it's all shaded by the trees and cliffs), and, as most of the beaches in that are, requires a 10 minutes walk down the cliff. The complex' path to the beach is very beautiful, however: very lush and green, with banana and passion fruit trees around, and lots of benches to rest if you'd like to. If you'd like to save some money, book a garden view room. We had one, and it was perfect: it had a beautiful view from the patio, and we did not feel that we miss anything. For food, we liked the Postcards cafe and hanalei, enjoyed very much the environment at Hanalei Dolphin restaurant for lunch, and loved the farmers market at Hanalei (2 p.m. on Tuesdays). The stuff was very nice and laid back too. Our plane was leaving at 10pm, so we were allowed to check out late, which is not very common.
