“Good place to stay near the beach!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

We stayed in studio without ocean view but was very nice because we had more privacy and less noise of people passing near by.
Pros:
You couls walk to the beach and have this beautiful place to swim and surf jus in front of you.
Kitchen very well equipped with everything you could think
Nice and big bathroom....you could a really hot shower!
Hot tub very nice to be after surf session.
Nice deck to eat your breakfast and dinners.
Easy to park and to go to Hanalei and Princeville by car.
Cons:
Bed(Sofa cama) was not very good and confortable.
TV, was old model and remote control was not working.
Referigerator was noisy..
Surf locals were not very freindly.

In all , I really like to be at Hanalei resort for 10 days, I had a great time!

Room Tip: Farmers market in Hanalei & Kailua is the way to go!

“Way up on the North Shore...”

Stayed here on our Kauai excursion. Rooms were a bit outdated, but clean. The biggest problem we had was the 30-40 minute drive to get to most of the attractions on Kauai. Would have paid more to stay south of Kapa'a.

“Great Location - Below Average Rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

As other reviewers have noted, the rooms are in need of upgrade and maintenance. The resort is in a great location: specifically, you can walk down to the same beach as the Saint Regis Princeville down a steep hill. If you like tennis, there are 6-8 very nice tennis courts. The views are nice from the units and the pool / jacuzzi are pretty good. There is no on-site restaurant or convenience store, but that was not a big deal for us as we prefer to cook in our room.

The issue at this hotel is the rooms. They are in below average condition and not well maintained. For example, our refrigerator door was very hard to close as it rubbed up against the wall and a nice groove from previous occupants same issue. A Coffee table in the room had one leg that was totally detached / falling off that could have been easily also noticed by a more caring property / housekeeping / "maintenance" staff. The rooms are two hotel rooms with a door between - not a great setup or redesign after the hotel conversion. For basic / value needs - this property is in the marketplace, but don't expect much from your room and you won't be disappointed. It is truly a great location and the ground gardens are nice to see also the flowers.

The service workers are also not very enjoyable about their jobs. There are a lot doing what doesn't look like much work. Lot's of nighttime noise from the propane powered putt-putt security vehicles made it hard to sleep at night. Usual north shore rooster crowing at 6:30am daily, more around here due to spacious grounds.

“Beauiful views of Hanalei Bay & the Mountains”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We love the area and had stayed at Hanalei Bay Resort five years ago in a private owned unit that we booked though the owner. This time we booked unit 9221 through Summit Pacific Inc.
The process was easy ,,the price was right but I was dissappointed on the condition and the bathroom not being very clean. You can't always tell by the pictures on the internet so next time I will read the reviews and look for the words "spotless". This unit needs to be repainted and the carpet has lots of spots on it. We were able to leave the sliding door open all night and awoke every morning to the roosters crowing at 5:00 am.
The pool looked great and the deck was still being set with stone when we were there. When we left they were just doing touch up work but it all looks very beautiful.
Check in was fast, staff was friendly and the grounds are lush and well kept. If you play tennis there are several courts. No food at the resort but a short drive to Princeville or Hanalei.
We love this place for the views.

Room Tip: Read the reviews and look at the map of the resort to find a room with a good view.

“Good location, OK hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

Despite the lobby and the restaurant being closed for repairs, the hotel is a decent place and has an ideal location on the point of Hanalei Bay. Condos with full kitchens make it easy to feed yourself on a budget, and you get plenty of exercise walking up and down the hill to the beach (or you can ring for a golf cart ride).

A few problems: The hotel had blocked off the only east/west walkway for their construction equipment, leaving guests to detour around the pool or through a tennis court to get to the other side of the property. The pool route was occasionally cordoned off too, and someone once commented on us walking through the unoccupied tennis court, when the other routes were unavailable. Not exactly good planning or guest-friendly. Also, while I was on the computer in the lobby, two staff members (one local front desk woman and one haole woman) were installing a coffee table and, seeing I was on the computer, proceeded to ask if they should turn it in another direction for more privacy, demonstrating the need of such by leaning over me and proceeding to read what I was writing online. It was quite rude. I concurred on the need for more privacy, but the computer remained in exactly the same position during the rest of my stay. So much for privacy and customer service.

We chose this hotel and location to surf, but everywhere we went in Hanalei Bay (even the beach break) we were accosted by hostile local surfers who would approach us in the water and yell at us or try to run us over in the water and then yell at us. Very pleasant. Be aware of this if you are planning on getting in the water with board.

Room Tip: Rooms on the west side have a view of the ocean or mountains.
