“One to top three Westin Vacation Ownerships anywhere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

As owners, we've been to most Starwood Vacation Ownership locations, and enjoyed them all. But, three in particular stand out. First, our home resort at Rancho Mirage, then the Westin Kierland, and lastly, Westin at Princeville, Kauai. We recently stayed there three weeks in a one bedroom, and enjoyed every minute. The location is beautiful, it was quiet (except for the roosters that keep everyone on their toes), there are no more beautiful places in the world to vacation, the people are friendly, the traffic is reasonable, and the food is good, though more expensive on the island than on the mainland. But, overall, the peace and quiet, aloha spirit, general smiles you see on everyone's faces, willingness to help -- can't be beat. We stayed in 1103 in January/early Feb, and enjoyed everything from the Ahouli gardens (new and rivaling ANY of the national gardens on the island that are marketed more), Waimea Canyon (Grand Canyon of Hawaii), kayak tour to Secret Falls, golf at Makai (more expensive, though views are almost as good as the Prince Course that opens March 1 2012 after being closed for a year for redoing greens), and so much more. If you're a golfer, you'll find the cheapest rates/value at Wailua (about $50-30 min fr Princeville), and Puakea down south near Costco south of Lihue 10 min fr airport. But, for views and star attraction, beautiful golf, try Kauai Lagoons at the airport Marriott location, or Poipu Bay where the Grand Slam of Golf was held for a decade. Absolutly stunning views/golf, and in my opinion better than Maui at Kapalua or the Makenas and other courses south at Kihue. But, the location at Princeville, with Hanalei Bay, Kilauea lighthouse, the Tri Health Ayurveda Spa (BEST value for money on island for ayurvedic 4 hand massage), good restaurants like Hanalei Dolphin and Postcards (expensive but great); are unbeatable. You can zone right at the Westin if you like with a BEAUTIFUL pool, one for adults, entertainment at the pool bar, and plenty of things to do for families or honeymooners. We were on second honeymoon, and also did Fern Grotto tour. SO much to do, the concierge will help (ask for Connie or Madi especially), and try Auntie Angeline's Lomi Lomi if you want authentic 4 handed lomi lomi. Best Lomi on island, and they are really nice. Not in phone book, so look on line for directions/tel. Hope that helps. Princeville stands out among Westins. Oh, and Captain Andy's dinner cruise on the south side with a trip along the Napali coast, with swimming included, was both fun and the food was MUCH better than expected. Good drinks included, too. But, Princeville Westin on the north side was our headquarters and we were glad we chose it!!

Room Tip: Try building 4 if you want peace and quiet on the golf course, with a beautiful ocean view and golf...

“Had my reservations when I discovered it is on a cliff not a beach; but Make Your Reservations!”

Pros; Laid back, relaxing, not crowded, beautiful pools, landscaping and magificent views. Friendly staff, first-class amenities including the best beds, pillows and sheets, upscale clientele, St Regis access.

Cons: Far off the beaten track (maybe that is a plus), expensive, often rainy (it's in the mountains) LIMITED BAY ACCESS (ESPECIALLY IN THE WINTER WHEN NORTH SHORES ARE BATTERED BY THE WINDS) and in our case, relatively poor repsonse by management when our car was broken into (back window smashed by a vandal) and our GPS stolen. It can happen anywhere, and everywhere the disclaimer's say "not responsible for damages" so I didn't really expect compensation when our timeshare rep insisted that Starwood would pay for damages "because they always go above and beyond" to satisfy their guests. I was prepared to "bite the bullet" and had my damages repaired at $474, and wrote off the loss of my Tom-Tom as my own fault for keeping it in the car. But I do remember having a similar breaak-in to our timeshare in Antigua some 12 years ago. When a camera and wallet with some cash were stolen from our unit, the management apologetically provided us with a certificate for a free week's stay in another timeshare. The thoughtfulness stayed with me because I realize they were victims as much as I, but that was true customer service. I thought some gesture from Westin Princeville would have been appropriate, especially since it occurred on a night we had arranged with their concierge to celebrate our 42nd wedding anniversary! Lightening does strike twice. 43 years earlier, on our honeymoon, our car was broken into and all my MoTown tapes were stolen! Thank God the thief left my Beach Boys alone! Oh well, over 42 years of travel to hundreds of places stuff CAN happen, so be on your guard! And don't be put off by a few bad incidents. All in all, it is still a beautiful world out there, with some great people to get to meet!

Room Tip: Bldgs 6 & 7, upper floors, although it is apparent the better room views are for owners and Sta...

“Unbelievable!”

My husband and I stayed at the Westin Princeville on our honeymoon. We'd never been to Kauai before and our flight got in after sunset. We got to the resort in the dark and were excited to be greeted by all the tiki torches. We were in villa 6216 and I will never forget waking up that first morning, throwing open the curtains and experiencing that view - omg - HEAVEN!

The room was great - we stopped and got food to make breakfast and lunches in our villa. Loved having that kitchenette. I would absolutely recommend stopping at the Costco in Lihue or the foodland just down the road from the resort to stock your villa - what a money-saver!

Anyhow, the room was huge and comfy. That shower with the double heads - amazing for rinsing off after swimming in the ocean. We overlooked the pool and the ocean. I loved being able to sit on our lanai and watch the whales.

The resort grounds were gorgeous, although we didn't spend a ton of time there. Service was fantastic, everyone was so friendly. We ate in the Nanea restaurant twice and the food was awesome!

We did walk down to the beach - the path was steep and slippery but man, it was SO worth it! I think that was my favorite beach. It was uncrowded, gorgeous, smooth and calm water and good snorkeling.

I loved being on the North shore because it was just breathtaking up there. We spent a lot of time exploring the entire island and any place we went to in the North just blew my mind. The only unfortunate part about it was that it was a long drive to go pretty much anywhere. We went diving so we spent a lot of time in the car going to the south shore.

All things considered, the Westin was the perfect place for our honeymoon. We loved every minute of it! The only sour memory is actually because I forgot to look in one drawer when we packed - don't leave anything in the room because it will be gone forever. Even so, I would recommend this place for honeymooners and families alike.

Room Tip: Get a room facing the ocean cliffs - the sunrise is unreal!

“Absolutely fabulous”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Stayed here in october 2011, and we had one of the best vacations ever. The complex is about a 45 minute drive from Lihue Airport on highway 560 (north). At nighttime we couldn't find it at first and drove a little bit too far on the highway, but once we found the right intersection and the resort, we knew it would be perfect. The studio had a jacuzzi in the bathroom, a small kitchen, a washing machine and a dryer, basically everything you'd need. And of course a Westin Heavenly Bed. The resort stands on a cliff, so there is no direct beach access, but you can get on their Westin shuttle for free, which takes you to the St Regis hotel in about 5 minutes, and you can use their beach wich offers a beautiful sunset view of Hanalei Bay. The great thing about the resort is that you can make dinner by yourself in your studio kitchen, or at a BBQ. They have several BBQ's onsite that you can use, or you eat in their restaurant. We started our days by getting starbucks coffee in their little shop and hang around their beautiful pools for a couple of hours. And after that we headed out to explore the beautiful north shore of Kauai, with some great beaches for snorkeling also nearby, like tunnels beach and the hanalei bay beach, or the beach at the end of the road.
In the 6 nights we were there, they offered several activities. They were even planning to show a movie on an inflattable moviescreen outdoors, but the heavy rain spoilt it. They had to cancel it, but the idea itself was great! We would love to watch a movie underneath the starry sky of hawaii. So we hope others will get that chance. The staff did let us use the dvd in our studio, so we could watch the movie inside. Great solution! The sunday brunch was well worth it by the way.

Room Tip: Some rooms face the parking lot, so avoid those.

“After Maui Stay a diffinate change of pace”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

After spending 6 days in Napili Bay, Maui in a small condo complex just off the beach, The Westin was a real change of pace. Not a hotel, but a time share complex with hotel ammenities, the Westin was the kind of a stay at your hotel, sit by the pool, have a nice dinner at their very good restaurant type of place. Throw in the free shuttle ride to the Regis for real upscale experience (you can only use their beach and bring your own towels). Our stay started out poorly with our studio villa not ready until just after 4PM (I realize they say check-in is @ 4PM but in over 40+ years of traveling around the world I've never been unable to check-in early). What with connection out of Maui getting us into Kauii around 1PM, we thought we could maybe get into our room and hour or two early. Also room position at The Westin is critical. If you get a 6000 or 7000 series room then you get a great view. Lower rooms 2000 especially you get a good view of the workers filling the grass with topsoil. Not much of a view. I know better now to look for the higher number rooms. Also with the Westin being 93% sold out (time share wise) you might have trouble getting one of these rooms. Parking is a daily lets see if I can get a closer parking spot ritual. The Westin compensates for this with very good valet service for your bags and car. But if your like myself and don't like to use these services (mucho thing I guess along with I want it now) the long walks to your car or a bit of a nuisance. Restaurant, pools, whirlpools, work-out rooms, steam room, sauna are all top notch. In summary if you like to be independant and like to venture out everyday to see beautiful Kauii, then the Westin may not be your cup of tea. If you like a hotel that takes care of your needs of a stay at the pool and relax with a good beverage of your choice and great dinner every night, then The Westin is a good choice.

Room Tip: Stay with 6000 & 7000 series room numbers
