We stayed in Whaler's Cove #212. This building is a condo building with a pool. Whaler's Cove is on the ocean at the end of a residential area. There is no street noise to contend with. The grounds are nicely landscaped and maintained.
The unit itself was nicely decorated, beds were very comfortable.
This unit is a ground floor unit overlooking the pool area which then leads to the ocean wall. The waves constantly crash against the rocks but because you are some distance back, the noise isn't overwhelming. There is a definitely a laid back, relaxed atmosphere here.
Like most condos on Kauai, this one has no A/C. Therefore, if you want cool breezes you have to leave your lanai doors open and rely on the locked front screen door which is fairly substantial as far as screen doors go. There is no way to lock the flimsy lanai screen doors ( which are ground level ). I was uncomfortable with the idea at first, but got used to it ( it was either that or be hot at night ).
Some minor issues: the washing machine was moldy because people don't let it dry out after use. The condo mgmt company took care of it. Except for the kitchen, all the bulbs were fairly low wattage, so if you need bright reading light you are out of look.
The pool and hot tub are nice. The pool area also has a shared bbq grill. As an added bonus in 212, you get to enjoy the delicious smells coming off the grill as folks cook their dinners.
If you're looking for a quiet stay with lots of room ( 1700 sq ft ) this is a good place. You can also walk to restaurants and a Wed-only farmers' market nearby. There's a cool beach at the Sheraton. It's about a 10-15 minute walk.
I would not recommend WC for families with teens as I think they would be bored stiff.
fyi, we read a note in the guestbook that a previous guest had a bag stolen when they left it sitting out, so regardless of where you go, the thiefs are out there.
The company managing this condo also was able to better our name-brand car rental by $100/week so we rented from them.
We would definitely return.
