Very special resort on the South Side. Two nicely arranged buildings with several apartments – all equipped with everything needed for both overnight or permanent stay. Each apartment has different owner so although architectural pattern might be similar but the interior arrangement, décor and details are different, reflecting their style. Not all apartments are for rent.
All apartments are either ocean view or ocean front and it really means it: ocean front is just few meters from the breaking waves. This proximity of the ocean made us to return many times and discover other unique advantages of this place. Every apartment has private lanai. Sitting on the lanai you might watch turtles. If you are lucky you might see dolphins hunting barracudas, wintertime whales, part of the year also sun set. The view from ocean front units is spectacular, 180 degrees, from Makahuena with its breaking waves, Sheraton’s The Point, almost up to Spouting Horn on the other side. The other building has also great view but it is more isolated from the sounds of ocean, what might be both advantage and disadvantage, depends what you like.
Location is also great, on the mostly sunny part of Kauai. End of the quiet road, private property, no traffic. Very close to Kukui Ula shopping village with all shops and excellent restaurants as well as to other attractions of this part of the coast, including Spouting Horn, botanical garden, Poipu, Koloa and to the East – picturesque, hidden beaches, not all of them accessible by car however.
The place has its own simple rules everyone has to observe; all together make it isolated, quiet and peaceful retreat. It is also very well equipped. Swimming pool, the only one with heated water on the island, Jacuzzi, barbeque grill, daily housekeeping etc.
There is also great staff who really likes what they do. We like the gardener who takes care for the little garden and all greens on the property, effective housemaids, maintenance guy who keep everything working perfectly and most of all admin/front office people – all of them love the island and know it very well so they are always of excellent advice and guidance. Thanks to them we learned much more of the island than from books and guides and we always feel here as coming back home.
Few years ago they were closed at the time we wanted to visit Kauai. Knowing it in advance we went the South Side almost house by house looking for matching location and we find none. Whalers Cove combination of the ocean, resort itself and its people is unique.
