This was our fifth visit to Kauai, our first being in 1999.
We stayed at Sunset Kahili on advice of family who have stayed (and were there when we were there) in unit 203. Unless we were to book 203 we would not stay at this location again.
One positive note: 506 has an unbelievable view of the ocean and the sunsets during the winter are fabulous from the lanai.
I wish we had read up on trip advisor before we went to Kauai, so we would have known to expect the "king" bed to actually be two twins pushed together. Such a disappointment, and unfortunately really affected our sleep.
The photos on the rental website look fantastic, and the unit really isn't all bad, but the first experience with the bed was not good. The furniture was extremely dirty, and there were a lot of stains in the carpet. The drapes have rust stains on them, and the window louvers on some of the windows would not open. The towels smelled bad (dirty dishcloth bad) from the day we got there, and we bought washing soda to try to get the smell out, but once they smell like that... there just isn't any going back.
Halfway through our vacation, the washing machine broke down and we were only given the option to use a coin-operated laundry facility in another complex, which we were not about to do. Who wants to babysit laundry on vacation? They could not have another washing machine in for three weeks, because the owners wanted the same machine as before and their particular model was not in any stores on the island.
We have not yet received our deposit back, so I cannot tell you if we have a fight on our hands or not. We did not do any of the laundry on our way out (obviously), but all the supplies in the condo are still there, and we did not move any of the furniture (one of the rules - if you move the large furniture and do not put it back where it was, you will be charged!)
Not the best experience we've had in Kauai with the condo.
Kauai itself was, once again, magically paradise, and we did enjoy our vacation immensely and will be going back as soon as we can. We just won't be staying in this property ever again.
