“No better hotel if you like pools”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

Other reviewers have said it all--this is a great property. If you want a relaxing day or days at the pool, by all means rush to this hotel. The lagoons and pools were clearly designed by the Frank Gehry of waterparks; they wind around the property under bridges, around lava rocks and over waterfalls. You can plunge down the slide (fun for kids and adults) or bask in your own private lagoon niche for hours. Ocean is pretty much unswim-able, but you can watch the brave surfers from the saltwater pool, complete with sandy beach.

Best part of breakfast buffet for us was sharing it (not literally) with a cattle egret the waitress named Henry. He knew enough to entertain but not to beg. If you have the breakfast package, try the restaurant at the golf course one morning--it was deserted when we went.

We rented a car for two days directly from the hotel. The rep--who we called Avis Annie--gave us great service and directions!

Aloha ParkSloper-

Mahalo for your review of your stay here with us at the Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa.

We're thrilled that you had a wonderful time with us and were able to enjoy and discover our pools and lagoon - it really is worth taking a full day or two to enjoy it.

Thank you for also for recognizing Annie at our Avis desk. We'll be sure she gets the comment. We look forward to having you join us again, and I'm sure Henry will be looking forward to entertaining you again as well.

A hui hou & Mahalo,

“great pools”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

we stayed here with 2 toddlers 4 and 2 year olds in january. it is a very spread out hotel, long walks from the lobby to everywhere, not particularly convenient for strollers if you have to use one. rooms are nice with a good sized balcony. the pools are excelllent, our kids had a great time. there is a stretch of real beach which you can take advantage of. but there is no shade and no beach chairs on the real beach. the restauants are solid, we liked the italian one, the chinese one on the golf course is ok, tidepool is pretty, but the dish we had was way too salty. the buffet breakfast is overpriced, mediocre and boring, we could not eat there anymore after 3 mornings. it's the same thing everyday and the selection is quite small considering there are many asians on the property. management, please visit sofitel in phom phem cambodia, the breakfast there is a good example for buffet serving an international crowd. hyatt camp is great for my 4 year old. they took great care of him and had a lot of activities for him and did not cancel on us due to low enrollment (he was the only one there one day). we had a great relaxing time. even though it is a big hotel, it didn't feel too crowded maybe because they had a lot of corporate clients who dont usually compete with leisure travellers on the common leisure facility.

“Still one of the best”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

We stayed here a few years ago and remember it as being an excellent hotel. The grounds are amazingly beautiful. The pools are very good, but lagoon is really special. The rooms are very good but starting to show their age – even after the remodel. See elsewhere for restaurant reviews, but go to Tidepools one night. The service was very good all around. My wife said the spa was excellent. Overall, it is a very good hotel. You are paying for Hawaii and the grounds – not the room. If you like to stay on-property for days, this is the place for you. If you spend every day covering the island’s sites and attractions, you can find better value elsewhere.

“Beautiful hotel but be prepared for a hike”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

The Grand Hyatt is a beautiful hotel. We were greeted with a fresh flower lei upon arrival. The staff is VERY attentive and friendly. The grounds are BEAUTIFUL. Their official website does not do it justice. The only problem is the property is so big that it was a quarter mile walk from our room in the Poipu wing, to the pool. I would be a great place for kids, as there is a pool that winds through lava rock and ends with a ride down a waterslide. There is also a saltwater lagoon that's perfect for children. So as not to feel left out, there is also an adults only pool.

Room Tip: The property is HUGH. The Poipu wing is quite the hike from the pool area. We were on the third f...

“Another wonderful stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

This was our second stay here, it was even better than the first! Rooms are of nice size, we were upgraded to an ocean view, which was spectacular. Room was spotless and house keeping perfect. The grounds are so wonderful. We found our own nook up on the river pool each day, it was almost like we had the place to ourselves. Eat at Tidepools two nights and each time was perfect, much better than our past experience. The breakfast buffet was just okay. We will definitely be back!
