As long as you don't mind 2 flights of stairs, this is a nice accommodation for a family or 2 couples--2 BR, 2 Ba with hallway in between. Each BR has access to a lanai--MBR w/ocean view. Furnishings a bit dated, but adequate. Unit gets strong afternoon sun, but if you keep blinds drawn till sundown and then open windows/turn on fans, it cools off before sleeping (well, at least it did in 77-degree January). In addition to cross breeze, benefit of 3rd level unit is security in keep sliding door open at night. Great views of birds, whales & sunset from front lanai! Though lanai overlooks a private residence, was never an issue during our week there.
Unit 522 comes w/lots of books and a few games (including Scrabble) & beach chairs. Nice open floor plan (see pictures). TVs in LR and back BR; wireless internet worked well.
Arrangements w/Parrish worked fine, as they have on most other trips renting through them.

We just got back from a friend/family vacation. Four families booked rooms at Nihi Kai. 201 was the place everyone ended up at. The view of the ocean was the best of all. We were the closest to the pool and the beaches. The condo was "island casual" decor, clean and comfortable but not too fancy. We cooked at the community BBQ, played tennis, and used the pool. Each morning we took a beautiful walk on the different paths in the Poipu area. We spent hours at Brennecke Beach and Poipu Beach, both a quick walk from the door of our condo. This made packing for the beach easy. Kids were able to run home if they got hungry or forgot something. The staff was helpful in giving us tips on things to do all around the island. The moisture in the air has caused a rust problem in the bathrooms but they were clean. There were coolers and some boogie boards for our use. The dishwasher was broken but no body told me this- it became clear as I tried to do a few loads and nothing was getting clean. The washing machine came in handy! We asked for stepping stones through the path leading to the basement porch because of the mud. All other units had them but we were refused. Be careful the sprinkler and rain cause a big mess and it easily tracks in. We always removed our shoes but still had some muck issues. We loved our trip and would easily go back to this unit!!

we have stayed in various units at Nihi Kai over the years, in building #8 and in building #5. Every unit is individually owned and there are some differences between them as to the upkeep of the facilities. In general, however, we have found Nihi Kai to be an excellent location for us with comfortable (not fancy) accomodations, great location and moderate (but not the cheapest) prices. We are perfectly located to travel West to Waimea Canyon or East to head up the Coast to the North Side, while enjoying the sunshine on the South Shore. We travel in winter (rainy season) so we find the South Shore more appealing, and we do not miss the fact that there is no air conditioning in these units. We are also happy to have the high speed internet access that is available in each unit as it helps us stay in touch during our vacation.

We stayed in unit #506. I have to say that the rental was handled very well from booking to providing us with directions from airport to condo and giving us a list of things to do on the island. The unit was recently remodeled and is clean and spacious. We were a group of 6 and the unit was well stocked with towels, dishes, and all the necessities needed for our stay. We were greeted with a very nice fruit basket and note that said "Welcome to your home in Kauai". Very nice. The condo does not have an ocean view but is close walking distance to the water. The entire facility has a tropical feel to it with many lush flowers, grass all about and streams. Every morning the sea turtles come to eat and the location is near a grouping of rocks close to the Villa entrance. The turtles come from 7am to 8am. Very close by is Brennekes beach and there are several places to eat.. Further down from Brennekes is another beach that is perfect for children and families. Turtles came during the day to eat and it was great to watch. Spend the day at this beach but make sure to bring sunscreen. There are tidepools close and the water is clear and the perfect temperature. Within less than 9 minutes of the condo is a town called Koloa. There is shopping in Koloa and a great italian restaurant. I recommend the tomato soup. Traditional flavor and delicious. Many things to do on the island: Visit botanical gardens, visit the coffee plantation, horse back riding. Multiple opportunities to take great pictures. The condo is not air conditioned but there are fans throughout which made the stay pleasant. The owner of this unit did not miss a beat in supplying it with everything needed for a group of six to stay in comfort. You can buy or bring laundry detergent and do your laundry mid week. This was nice. Kauai is a beautiful island. I felt happy the first day we arrived and was sad to leave. I will not forget this amazing place. mc
