My husband and I did the island hopper thing and stayed at several resorts on 4 different islands. The Koa Kea was hands down above the rest -- WAY better than the Hyatt on Waikiki Beach which nickel and dimed us to death. At the Koa Kea on Poipu Beach-- there is no charge for parking ($30 bucks a day at the Hyatt) or internet like some of the other hotels. At the Koa Kea -- After check in we were escorted to our rooms and a bell hop brought our luggage. At the Hyatt we were 'processed' in and had to haul our own luggage. The clerk at the Hyatt noticed we were in one of the rooms next to the elevator and told us it was unfortunate but for $40 extra a day he could move us. Yep. Screwed from the get go. The Hyatt has 39 floors with 4 sets of elevators. It sounded like a jet plane flying by our room all night. If we were made out of money the 40 bucks a day would not have been a big deal -- but we aren't, so we sucked it up.
The restaurants at all the resorts are about the same. Expensive but good seafood and lots of fresh fruit at breakfast. But the friendly and attentive wait staff at the Koa Kea surpassed all the others. Again -- can't say diddly squat about fancy food -- but it is nice getting a refill on your drink that didn't take 15 minutes to get -- or to be charged for a refill on a soda or iced tea.
The rooms were PLUSH and beautiful. Our room had a beautiful HUGE marble shower that was to die for. The resort is right off the beach. I don't care for boutiques or busy shopping so I can't say much about that.
The atmosphere is laid back and relaxing, just how we like it.
To me this a five star place. I was a person -- not a dollar sign. If you stay there, you won't regret it.
