This was our 3rd trip to Kauai, and got this hotel through our timeshare exchange. Normally we prefer the Poipu area, but this worked out really well since the access to the north is much quicker. We didn't even have an ocean view, ended up with just a garden view but it was fine. The room came with a DVD player and washer/dryer, both very helpful. We always make our own breakfast, eat a snacky lunch and enjoy a nice dinner. Another fun option for dinner is to buy fresh fish from local market & fresh fruit from farmer's market and grill your own dinner at the bbq on site.
Along with our old favorites of Waimea Canyon and Kokee State Park (we saw the view without fog for once!) I got to go on the Allerton Garden Tour. Definitely worth it for any garden lover, not so much for kids or teens.
Snorkeling! Always fun on this island. The weather kept switching around with heavy winds and choppy waves , but this year the north shore was actually the best. Tunnels and Anini Beaches have long barrier reefs, making them sheltered from the worst waves. We spent all day at Anini--it's off the highway so quiet and private. Be sure to obtain the latest copy of The Ultimate Guide to Kauai for the best maps and directions to the hidden beaches.
Extreme Fun! I was there for my 53rd birthday so we tried the Zip and Dip excursion offered through Princeville Ranch. So much fun! You have to hike up hill and dell wearing harnesses to get to the nine zip lines on the tour--the longest is 600 feet! At lunch you get to "dip" in a natural waterfall pool. Totally worth the price.
Pool? Small, but we never use one on Kauai. Roosters? Yep, all night long--everywhere on the island. Turn up the fan. Motorcross? Only on the weekends, but gone by evening. So the Beach Villas were a nice place to stay, but I'm going back to Poipu next time.
