“Dec 2011”

We stayed in unit 84. It was on the top row in the back and from the second story (these are townhomes) you got a very nice view of the sunrise/set and harbor from your patio. There are two sets of stairs before you get to your unit and then of course the stairs in side your unit and no elevators. Just so you know. It was not a big deal once you get all your luggage in and your groceries but a consideration. The unit was clean but not fancy. the sofa (as with most rentals) was terribel to sit on. the cushions lost their bounce about 10 yrs ago.

There were cruise ship[s in and out of the harbor each day. The Princess line came in one afternoon and left that same day after having a very loud party on deck. There is alot of back up the truck beeping noises that comes from the docks as they manuver cargo on the platforms. And you get a lot of white noise from the window A/C units if you use them. We did on many occasions, becuase we couldn't get a breeze thru tthe unit.

The activity breakfast was nice (not if you were hungry) but they presented from all of the top tourist attractions so you could get an idea of what is offered. We were looking for more local no touristy stuff this time since we had been there before.

Ok, hope this helps! loved the island, it does not love me. I had major sinus problems during the trip. Too much pollen/mold/mildew in the air? not sure.

Room Tip: we are a part of a timeshare so we never get to choose....

“Well kept condo”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 December 2011

Very well kept, had everything that we needed. Wi-fi doesn`t work very well in most of the condo, just in certain spots. We had a condo that was facing the beach and the road, which was great during the day, but not so much at night. You could hear the parties going on either at the beach or the bar down the road. There were no drapes on the windows in the main bedroom, so as soon as the sun came up, it was blasting into the room, waking you up at 6am. There is NO AC in this unit, but it wasn`t needed when we were there.

There was also a $150 cleaning fee for the condo, and we were only there 4 days, which I thought was very excessive.

Room Tip: Choose a room away from the highway|

Place doesn't deserve the great staff, especially Kiki.

I get home and review my bank statement and I have a charge on my account. I have tried to call 4 times to find out what the charge is, no call returned. Shady...

Units inside nice, wi-fi doesn't work and too close to major roadway. If you open your windows it isn't the waves crashing you hear!

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else

“Very clean and very friendly front office.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 November 2011

We are here for about 2 weeks. The unit is very clean. Complete with a full kitchen and a great washer and dryer. We use the kitchen for almost every meal, we prefer to eat in. The local fish and vegetables are wonderful. The people in the front office are absolutely wonderful and very helpful! The pool area is great and the gas grills located around the property are better than mine at home! The beach is very close, easy walking distance and several restaurants are even closer. The WiFi is a bit iffy, but workable. There is so much to do, you should not get bored. The only thing that I would complain about is that the property is too close to the main highway. It is too noisy. Pick a 'condo' furthest away from the highway, the highway noise can be annoying.

Room Tip: Pick a room furthest from the highway.

“Good value for the money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 November 2011

Read some of the negative reviews and was very surprised. No, Banyan Harbor is NOT for you if you need seaside massage, manicures on site, golf at your doorstep, and other upscale amenities. If, on the other hand, you need a clean, comfortable place to lay your head after a day of snorkling, hiking, or boating this is the place for you. Then kitchen was clean and fairly well equipped for what cooking I was going to do. No bugs as reported and the lizards were outside - but hey you are in the tropics and if you can't handle a bug or two you better not go! The beds were comfy and the rooms well ventilated. We had a second story unit and left the windows open all night and the breeze was wonderful. We were there in November and did not need the A/C once. The A/C units were in the window and I suppose they could be noisy but we never needed them. I figure I'm coming to Hawaii to enjoy the sea and the breeze so I did not want to shut it out. It got a little warm sometimes but you need to do like the natives - loose fitting clothing to let the breeze in - ladies bag the jeans - go for longer loose dresses and skirts and you will be comfortable. Go for longer length or the wind will cause you to give a little Marilyn Monroe action when you least expect it! KiKi at the front desk is very helpful and will steer you away from the scammers. Yes, the island is full of them - beware of the folks at the jewlery counter at Hilo Hatties and those resort/timeshare presentations. If you get to the office quickly they have snorkle gear, beach chairs and mats, boogie boards, and other beach things you can borrow and return. This will save you some $$$ and packing - but get there early for the best selection! Another tip is that there are second hand stores were you can pick up used boards and things if your pockets are not very deep. Never used the pool - why when you have all the beaches - but I did walk up there once and it was clean and in good repair. The washer and dryer were really handy but beware - the dryer in our unit was not vented outside. I kept the door open and ran the exhaust fan in the bathroom when doing laundry and only did laundry at night. Over-all good value for your average Joe - which I am - no pretence here!

Room Tip: Pick anything thing but a ground floor unit and leave the windows open and enjoy the breezes. We we...
