We had an oceanfront room. My husband emailed in advance asking for a room on the third floor and for a bigger bed than a queen size, both of our requests were accomodated. From our room we could see the humpbacks breach. The rooms are clean and well planned. You can spot a bit of rust etc, this is not a four star resort. The grounds are lovely, the beach is beautiful even though the rocks and the sometimes hard surf made it difficult/dangerous to swim. We never used the pool and on the downside the bartender at the poolside bar was not so friendly and parking could be a bit of a hassle if you came in late.
All and all a very nice hotel. We enjoyed our stay very much and would gladely stay there again. I would recommend paying the extra buck for oceanfront and ask for a room on the third floor.

Islander is a converted hotel so the rooms are studios which works well for couples. The pool area is clean and has a tiki bar that opens at 11:00 each day with happy hour specials. The location on the east side means the waves are too big to swim but there are ocean views from nearly all rooms. The buildings are close enough to the ocean to hear the surf but you can shut it out by closing the doors. We experienced no noise from the units around us and it is a short walk across the parking lot to the Coconut Marketplace with a few restaurants and shops. Mostly an older retired crowd, not for people wiht little kids.

I chose Islander for its location and price, it was a pleasant surprise to see the grounds beautifully maintained and the unit well appointed with travertine tile and granite. The king bed was very comfy. Although the beach out front of the unit was not the best for swimming the beauty was amazing. This was centrally located for surfing and hiking adventures on either side of the island. I would stay here again especially since it was only $100/night for oceanfront.

My husband and I stayed here five nights and we loved it! Great location! It is situated just a bit out of Kapaa, driving distance from hotel to all parts of island about the same. Restaurants are close by. Make sure to try out the Korean BBQ restaurant. The food they serve are authentic! Price is reasonable! Actually we were surprised how reasonable they were!
Make sure you make time to stay around the beach By the hotel. Buy a cooled coconut and take it to the beach is awesome! Get a room face ocean front, it's well worth it!!
