My husband and I spent 10 days on Kauai in December. We split the trip up into three separate stays. We began the trip on the southern side of the island and spent three days at Marjorie's Inn. We then packed up and headed up to Kokee Lodge where we spent four days. Finally, we ended our trip on the northeast side at Kauai Cottages in Kapaa for the end of our trip. Kauai Cottages was a perfect ending to a perfect trip. Cheryl, the owner, is a great hostess. She is a retired flight attendant who has decorated her own home and her two guest cottages with items from the far east. We stayed in the smaller of the two, the one bedroom off the pool. The place was beatifully decorated, comfortable and well equipped. Gorgeous lava rock shower, fluffly towells, very clean and modern kitchen, bamboo flooring everywhere, great bed with wonderful quilts and...our favorite...a great reading nook out on the front deck overlooking the pool. My husband and I spent many hours snuggled up on this great long bench reading and enjoying a glass of wine. From Kauai Cottages you can buzz down the road and be at any of the touristy spots along the eastern coast within seconds. By staying at Kauai Cottages (rather than one of those condos on the ocean) you have luxurious comfort and lots of privacy. Initially I was not sure it would be worth the price. I think we paid $120 per night. It was absolutely worth it. After spending four days at Kokee hiking through the red mud (and saving $$ because Kokee is only $40 per night) we felt justified in treating ourselves to Kauai Cottages on our last three nights. During our three days there we used one day to head to the northern coast and hike the Napali Coastline.....not to be missed. We spent one day in Kapaa doing a short hike of the Sleeping Giant (great views) and we spent one day shopping and enjoyed a good meal in town. Kauai Cottages website: http://www.kauai-cottages.com/
