Finally at home or in paradise ... that were our feelings, as we drove into the driveway of the Kauai Country Inn and saw the building and the wooded surroundings. We parked our car in the reserved parking space and entered our suite. There we were greeted with the sounds of the tropical outdoors ... if you are looking for a place where you can unwind, enjoy the sounds of nature and enjoy this wonderful Inn, this is the place to be!
We stayed 8 wonderful nights in the Pulmeria Suite, which featured a large master bedroom, a day bed in the living room, a 47" HDTVflat screen TV with DVD player and a large collection of movies. There was also a kitchenette/living room area with comfortable seating and a table and with kitchen chairs. The bathroom was huge with bathtub and shower. A big plus was the spacious and much-appreciated lanai with outdoor chairs (even a rocking chair!) and tables.
The kitchenette contains a big fridge, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, blender and lots of dishes, so you can prepare your breakfast, lunch or dinner on your own. However, every morning is a continental breakfast available (coffee, & tea, baked goods, yogurt), which we've enjoyed on the veranda including the much appreciated daily chat with Jeff about things to do and to see ... many thanks for that! But if you like your privacy and want to have your breakfast in your room: no worries, just pick up something and take it back to your suite.
Best of all are the hosts, Mike and Martina Hough, the owners, and helpers, Jeff and Patricia, who made us feel like extended family coming for a visit. They all made sure that everything they could do to make our stay great. Thank you so much!
We must not forget the Beatles museum in the basement that includes thousands of items related to the Beatles, including two of George Harrison's guitars and their manager's personal Mini Cooper car. Mike gave us a 2 1/2 hour personal tour, just awesome!
We loved the east side of the island, but do be aware that it belongs to the wet part of Kauai. Here you are staying in in the middle of a tropical rainforest and it really does rain every day once, mostly in the evening or early morning. However, as soon as you drive down to the beaches (which are 15 min. away), you will enter a completely different climate zone. Indeed, nothing is far away in Kauai, the island is only 33 miles across. Therefore, the Kauai Country Inn is a perfect "homebase" to explore the many things this island has to offer (and to avoid the notorious traffic jam in downtown Kapaa).
After travelling six months around, this place was really a "home far away from home". If we are able to plan another visit to Kauai: we will be definitely back at the Kauai Country Inn!
