We usually stay beachfront in the tropics, for sun time and snorkeling. My travel agent said on Kauai, the beaches are not necessarily the best part - you really should try this place in the mountains, and she was right! Yes, it does look like an ordinary neighborhood, but the drive up to this neighborhood is very scenic and passes a nice waterfall. Also, Ruth and Sandy really do run a first class place, including the availability of much recreational gear, conciege-type services, and for the unit we were in, a private back yard with a hot tub. The best part were the breakfasts! Freshly baked breads, fresh local fruit, breakfast parfaits .... If only the local feral roosters would sleep later in the morning, but they seem to be everywhere on Kauai. This was one of the two best places we stayed during our 3 week trip to several Hawaiian islands and a couple of islands to the west! And it had the best breakfast food during the trip!
