“Wonderful guys and great, centrally-located accommodations!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 July 2009

I stayed with Dan & Charlie back in 2003 and had a great time. I am a bit of a handful for meal-providing establishments, being vegan. I didn't expect them to cater to me, but they DID! The guys were wonderful hosts from the house itself to providing suggestions and hiking trail books!

I would stay there again in a New York minute!

“Quiet & Comfortable”

I first visited Dan & Charlie's place in fall of 1997 and returned several times.

They cater to Gay guests & advertise as such but are open to making their lovely home available to all tourists.

I stayed in a room with shared bath but their fancy room has a private bath. The room was very quiet and away from road noise. I especially remember falling asleep most nights with the light rains that occur most nights and the light tinkling of wind chimes in the garden.

Breakfasts were traditional and very good w/ fresh coffee, bacon/eggs, fresh fruit, etc. w/ flexible serving time. They typically offered cocktails upon your arrival and evenings when you came "home".

The house is situated in a quiet subdivision about 10 minutes above Kapaa/Lihue with lovely view of surrounding hills & nice garden like setting.

Room rates were very reasonalbe compared to regular hotels.
Rooms and baths are very clean. Dan is a stickler for cleanliness.

Dan & Charlie's place was a very central location for exploting the whole island (about 1 hours drive to south or north end of island) I am hoping to return again someday.

  • Liked — Comfortable and quiet 'like home'.
  • Disliked — Haven't been back to Kauai in a while.
  • Tips/Secrets — If you are ttaveling with a friend there is only a minor upcharge for double occupancy

I stayed at this gay bed & breakfast in September 2000. I'm new to tripadvisor.com, so I thought I'd share my experience even though it's been a few years.

REVIEW DETAILS...
I stayed at this gay bed & breakfast for 9 days.

The two men who run the place were friendly and helpful. The room was clean; the bed was comfortable; the bathroom was clean. They did not offer internet access, but they allowed me to make local calls for free. The grounds were nice; the backyard had a bunch of vegetation and a sheltered pool. The breakfast was homemade and tasty.

The bed & breakfast is centrally located on the island. It doesn't take long to get to either side of the island from here; that's one reason why I chose this place. I didn't spend much time at the bed & breakfast because I planned a bunch of activities for each day, so I was gone early in the morning and didn't return until the late evening.

The home is not air-conditioned, but this didn't bother me. I didn't run the air-conditioning in my rental car either. I enjoyed the weather.
