We've stayed at the Kaua'i Sands twice before and are going back again for a week in February. I'm generally a Marriott or Sheraton girl stateside, but for the price, I can put up with dated decor and limited amenities. The Kaua'i Sands, my friends, is ON THE BEACH FOR LESS THAN $100 A NIGHT and that's ON KAUA'I!!! I have accidentally ended up in some really expensive flea-bag joints on occasion. The Kaua'i Sands is a far cry from any nasty place like that. Mr. "Remeber" (and it's spelled "remember") obviously reserved the cheapest room he could get and didn't like it. At the Kaua'i Sands, for $20 or $30 more a night, you can have a Deluxe pool-view room for STILL less than $100 a night. Another plus for the Sands - it's Hawaiian-owned. I'd much rather support the native islanders in business than some big corporate chain of over-priced, Disneyland-style resorts. Incidentally, about the cleaning staff going through your medications: traveler common sense tells us that one should NEVER leave medication (especially controlled substances or life-sustaining meds), valuable electronics, cash or credit cards in your motel room, unless it has a safe to put them in. Carry them with you or lock 'em up. Otherwise, you are tempting staff to easily finger or lift your valuables (or just move them to dust the furniture) even in 5-star hotels. And burglers DO occasionally break into motel rooms. There are criminals everywhere and it can happen. You must remember you are NOT at home! Employees (strangers to you) will be in your room while you are gone. We love the Kauai Sands the way it is and, while we hope it's maintained as well as possible, we also hope it never "upgrades" to a $400 a night copy of the Princeville Resort or Poipu Hilton!! That's my rant for the day. :-)
