“BEST B&B I've ever stayed at! A+++++”

Eco-conscious and perfectly located on top of a hill in a beautiful neighborhood! Away from the hustle and bustle and just a few minutes away from Poipu Beach. Every morning you'll wake up to Ben and Traci's wonderful smiles and beautifully prepared breakfasts. Fresh and local papaya, kiwi and pineapple! This B&B is ultra-clean and each room is well-decorated and has it's own spacious bathroom. Also, each room is equipped with two boogie boards, a little cooler that you can bring to the beach and a copy of "The Ultimate Kauai" travel book. There's also a fridge to share on the deck. We slept so well here! The owners have been here for 20+ years and are so friendly and knowledgeable of the Island. We really enjoyed their recommendations for beach spots and excellent restaurant picks! Thanks again Ben and Traci for making our trip so memorable! - Sherisse

“Centrally located to all the attractions in Kauai”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2011

Follow the directions from the owner and you will find this bed and breakfast at the top of the dirt road. It is centrally located to everything we were going to do in Kauai. Couple of restaurants within 5 miles of the bed and breakfast. The owners are delightful and the room we had was very spacious with a sitting room with a sofa, tv that played dvd movies which they provided, books about the island, cooler, beach chair and beach towels to use. the bathroom had nice thick towels but be sure to bring your own soap and shampoo. The bedroom was a separate room and the bed was very comfortable. The island of Kauai is noisy from the roosters and chickens, they are like our cats everywhere, so be prepared with ear plugs if noise bothers you. the only complaint we had was that there was not a coffee maker in the room, but after talking with the owner he had the coffee pot ready for us to turn on in the breakfast area when we woke up.
Breakfast is served in the courtyard at 8 am and was delicious. the first morning they served french toast bake with fresh fruit and coffee and tea, the 2nd morning we had scrambled eggs, cheese and broccoli (really filling), toast, jam, fresh fruit, juice, coffee...
great place, location and very good breakfasts...

“Homey B&B -- a great stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2011

Tracy and Ben are two of the kindest people I have ever met. After a long flight from the east coast, it was such a comfort to have them as my hosts, I was welcomed immediately. They provided great recommendations and directions to places on the island. And the breakfasts they serve up...simply outstanding. The breakfast wrap and fresh fruit was a perfect way to fuel up. The rooms are very comfortable, clean and quiet. Would definitely stay again!

“Great bed & breakfast away from the crowds”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2011

We stayed with the Sullivans at their Strawberry Guava b & b for 12 days and enjoyed being there very much. Run by Ben & Traci, with help from their three young children, we felt very much at home and were well looked after. Not fancy, but comfortable, with wonderful breakfasts and lots of good conversation. Breakfast, served on the deck, was always some form of cooked egg dish - there were so many variations we hardly had the same thing twice - and a plateful of at least four or five different fresh fruits every day. Strawberry Guava is not far from the small village of Koloa, and the resort area of Poipu is just a few miles further on. There are many restaurants to be found in these and other nearby places, ranging from the very fancy (and pricey) to smaller, low-key eateries where there is absolutely no need to dress for dinner. Since we enjoy a no-fuss type of holiday, both Strawberry Guava and the many local restaurants were just what we were looking for - good service, very reasonable prices, and great people.
The Sullivan family are hospitable, warm and friendly folk, and made our stay a fun and happy one.
Take a tip from those who know (!). The Strawberry Guava website gives excellent driving directions from the airport, but try to arrive in daylight - finding the place for the first time in the dark might be a bit of a challenge!

“Great deal...but this is not a B&B the way you know it!”

As a travel professional (and a member of the National Association of Travel Agents) I felt compelled to critique a “B&B” we stayed in over Christmas 2010 to alert all as to the status of this “B&B”. I stayed at the Strawberry Guava six years ago and booked it for four nights over Christmas 2010. The new owners Tracy and Ben (Sullivan) are Joe’s son and daughter-in-law. When I stayed at the Inn 6 years ago it was a “true” bed and breakfast INN just like the over 50- B&B’s I stayed in over the past 30 years. B&B inns usually have a large living room with a big TV; lots of books to read on the area you are visiting and bring a “homey” feeling to all the guests. My second visit to the Strawberry Guava was a total disaster. I never even thought of checking Trip Advisor for the latest update. Had I, we would never have stayed there. It Is NOT, repeat NOT a Bed and Breakfast the way we know it. Tracy and Ben have taken over the house to raise their family. It is off limits to all guests. Secondly, breakfast is served on the porch abutting the rooms, not in the main house like it use to be when their dad owned the place. We sat on rain soaked wooden chairs and enjoyed our breakfast with the damp air at our backs …ugh. In addition, it appears Ben and Tracy installed a new well pump, which went on and off every five minutes and drove us crazy trying to sleep. Talk about “water torture”. And finally, the bugs have taken over the Strawberry Guava and even the Gecko’s can’t control them. We checked out after the first night, something I haven’t done in over 30 years! Only positive thing here is that it still is a great bargain if you want just a Bed and a Breakfast for $70, don’t mind the bugs and the water torture. And, PS…. don’t expect any amenities of a true B&B.

We're not for everyone, as these guests can attest to. We offer clean, comfortable rooms, friendly accommodations, reasonable prices, and a great breakfast. However, we are not a hotel. We do live here with our three children and we do not have libraries, lounges, or other expanded amenities available to our guests that may be more typical at a hotel.

Unfortunately these guests were unhappy before they arrived, and they remained unhappy when they left. Before arriving, they called complaining that we lived in the 'boonies' and how would they ever find our B&B. Upon arriving, they said that the room they had originally reserved (for $70/night) was just too small and demanded an upgrade to a two room suite. We gave it to them, and then they proceeded to leave the exterior door open and the lights on in the bathroom all night, which did attract a significant number of bugs.

I will leave it to the good judgement of Trip Advisor's readers to compare this review to the many others here. We look forward to your visit!
