“Sullivan's Perfect Piece of Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2011

I recently stayed at Ben & Traci Sullivan's StrawberryGuava. Although only a short drive from Hwy 50, you are surrounded by a peaceful privacy only interrupted by the parrots and other birds. The valley in which SG is located envelopes you with a feel of the old Hawaii.
There are many interesting elements to SG. From island woods milled and cut on Kauai to the patina on the copper gutters and back splashes, there are many unique features. The rooms are situated to provide each guest with privacy. They are well laid out, roomy, clean and catch the breeze. Thankfully, there is no TV. The wifi provides instant access to the internet. The view from my suite captured the valley and could have been from a postcard. There are beach items in the room for fun in the sun.
The Sullivans are welcoming, gracious and accomodating hosts. The food is very good. The fruit is fresh and mainly comes from the SG's grounds. Fresh fruit was provided when I was unable to breakfast with other guests due to an early dive boat. The Sullivans are friendly folk, but respect the guests' privacy. They really enbody the aloha spirit.
I would definately return. If you are looking for an oasis of tranquility after a busy south shore day, the SG is for you.

“A piece of paradise - and underpriced”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 April 2011

We stayed there for just 1 night and I fell in love with the place. I was suspicious because the price was so low, but it is truly magical. The room was lovely and comfortable, and all we saw from the windows was lush greenery and the only sounds were of the forest. There are considerate touches, like beach towels, a cooler etc. No TV but who cares. Traci and Ben are helpful. The only downside is that it would be hard to be self-sufficient food-wise - there is a small communal fridge and a microwave, but no real kitchen, which would mean having to eat most meals out (they do provide breakfast though). I guess its cheap because its not by the beach, but the area is beautiful - misty green heaven. If you go there, try to visit the Lawai International Center (open very rarely): http://www.lawaicenter.org/pages/home.html

“Great Hospitality and Value in a Secluded Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 April 2011

We enjoyed our stay here. The room was nicely furnished and came supplied with guidebooks, photo books of the island, and even snorkel gear. Tracy and Ben were great hosts, and the breakfast was tasty: eggs, toast, fresh sliced papaya and pineapple. The location is relatively secluded in a quiet neighborhood on the side of a hill... if you're looking to get away from the big resorts down by the water, this is a great spot. The only thing that keeps me from giving this B&B five stars is that our room did have quite a few ants. This sort of thing isn't a particularly big deal to us, and the ants mostly kept to themselves, but it's something to be aware of if you're squeamish about such things. Overall, we felt this B&B met our needs very well and was a good value.

Mahalo for the positive review, we're glad you enjoyed your stay. We apologize for the ants, and more so, for not letting you know that they are all but unavoidable when you leave food out in the room for any period of time. We try to let everyone know that our approach to managing ants is to avoid nasty toxins and instead simply keep food items wrapped up well. This is one reason the fridge and microwave are out in the common area, where we can manage any mess that would otherwise attract ants. Next time you come back, please let us know if you have this problem again and we'll take care of it for you promptly.

Aloha,

Ben Sullivan

“Perfect for us!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 March 2011

If you are into basic accommodations and a non-resort atmosphere.... consider staying here. The host family is very nice and the breakfasts are outstanding.... lots of fresh fruit and delicious! The rooms are clean but small and the B&B is a short drive from Poipu. It's at an elevation that is refreshingly cool at night. It was perfect for us!

“BEST B&B I've ever stayed at! A+++++”

Eco-conscious and perfectly located on top of a hill in a beautiful neighborhood! Away from the hustle and bustle and just a few minutes away from Poipu Beach. Every morning you'll wake up to Ben and Traci's wonderful smiles and beautifully prepared breakfasts. Fresh and local papaya, kiwi and pineapple! This B&B is ultra-clean and each room is well-decorated and has it's own spacious bathroom. Also, each room is equipped with two boogie boards, a little cooler that you can bring to the beach and a copy of "The Ultimate Kauai" travel book. There's also a fridge to share on the deck. We slept so well here! The owners have been here for 20+ years and are so friendly and knowledgeable of the Island. We really enjoyed their recommendations for beach spots and excellent restaurant picks! Thanks again Ben and Traci for making our trip so memorable! - Sherisse
