“Absolutely loved this B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We enjoyed our stay at Ho'o Haha from the minute we arrived. Kirby and Toby are masters at making their guests feel right at home. The rooms are delightful, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The main area is lovely and they even provide all the fun beach items a traveler would want. Breakfast is a real treat and was literally the best breakfasts I've had anywhere. Also this part of Kauai was heavenly, I did not want to leave and cannot wait to return.

Room Tip: Some rooms have better views than others.

“Beautiful Spot.”

Stayed there over Christmas, incredibly beautiful spot, secluded, almost two miles from the literal - physical end of the road, and it was totally relaxing. House is all new, up in the air, really comfortable, wish I had a house like this, the bathroom was amazing, Pineapple room was so fresh and breezy, you can see the water from there, hear the surf. Beautiful Christmas tree, Toby & Kirby were very cool, friendly, they know everything, seen and did it all and it was fun to be with them when they were around. Great to be able to wake up and have an early breakfast, different every day, all good stuff. We used the fantastic kitchen, the pantry, the gas grill, the snorkel stuff and used the hot tub and outside shower one day when it was a little rainy and cool after being in the water. Met some nice people there. You gotta have a car, let Kirby arrange it ahead of time, it was nice to drive to Hanalei, Tahiti Nui restaurant, and L&L Barbecue, we have one here in our 'hood in SF, but we loved being away from it all at the house. Would love to get back there, so much to do on Kauai, to see and learn, the place is kinda like a time capsule in a way. Everything is so beautiful and tropical feeling out there on the North Shore, it just sweeps you away. We loved the house, the 'neighborhood', the parrot, cats, geckos, toads, even the roosters. Go and stay there.

Room Tip: Pineapple room had a corner, cross ventilation, sunny, breezy, we could see the water.

“Friendly, helpful hosts with great location for exploring the north shore.”

We stayed here for three nights in the mango room while beach hopping on the north shore and as a base for hiking the Na Pali coast. The room was simple with great views of the mountains. Breakfasts were fantastic, and Toby and Kirby were very helpful pointing us around the area. They let guests use the kitchen and will let you keep your other luggage at the b&b while you're camping/hiking the coast. The b&b is close to lovely, uncrowded beach, though not very swimmable when we were there I'm the winter. Great place to stay to get away and enjoy a beautiful part of the island.

“Highly Recommend”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

Having just returned from our Kauai-an vacation, we want to share our experience. We stayed at Hale Ho'o Maha with hosts Toby and Kirby. We stayed with them 12 years ago and returned for 12 days this time.

It was so nice to wake up in our room to mountain views and the sound of nearby waves unfurling on the shore. We knew Toby was in the kitchen preparing yet another awesome breakfast. Breakfast could be blueberry/macadamia nut waffles or pancakes, french toast with sweet Hawaiian bread, or eggs prepared in a variety of ways, all complimented with bacon, sausage, Kauai-made granola, coffee, tea, a myriad of syrup choices, and yummy tropical juice.

One of the breakfast highlights is the plate of fruit. Daily we had fresh papaya, pineapple that is oh so sweet, limes, melons, longams, grapes, etc., many of which come from local sources found at farmer's markets (these markets are a "don't miss" when you're there.).

The home was specifically built to be a B&B with private baths and balconies for each of the four rooms. The common area is warm and welcoming with Hawaiian decor and balconies all around. Several days we ate breakfast as one or more rainbows graced the sky seemingly just outside the screen doors.

The common area includes all the comforts of home and is frequently a gathering place in the evenings for those who wish to join. Wifi is available throughout the home with a PC available for guest use (but think twice, do you really want to check your email?) Other amenities include elevator (home is on stilts per building code), hot tub, laundry facilities, access to full service kitchen and pantry, and grill for cooking out.

Toby and Kirby are a wealth of information and gladly share stories and experiences with those who wish it. They can suggest eateries, beaches, activities. They can arrange helicopter rides, rental cars, and even weddings and vow renewals.

Beach equipment (coolers, boogie boards, snorkel gear, beach mats, chairs, etc.) is available for guest use.

Overall our experience was memorable and we are already planning our next visit to Kauai, when we will absolutely stay with Toby and Kirby again. Mahalo to you both!

Mike and Diane

Room Tip: We stayed in the Papaya Room, nice mountain view and facing the back yard.

“Going Up!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

We stayed in the Pineapple Suite which was a quiet, airy room with all things pineapple – quilt, carpet, nightlight, laundry hamper. The round bed had one disadvantage – you could only sit up in bed at one place. The building is on very tall stilts – there is a lift which we used when taking our cases up but otherwise used the stairs.

Toby was friendly and prepared a great breakfast – just don’t ask for poached egg. Sitting at one table made it easy to talk with other guests.

Bring food with you to prepare in the kitchen or BBQ – this B&B is a long way from Hanalei along a winding road with several one-way bridges – not something we wanted to tackle at night. There is one restaurant within walking distance. Having use of the kitchen was great – could boil water to make a cup of tea.
