“Delightful complex”

Our stay in unit 4c was superb. Check in was quick and easy and they knew we were a late arrival. Close and ample parking made it easy to load and unload our car each day. The 2 bedroom condo was nicely decorated, warm and inviting. The finishing touches really made a difference. I cooked dinner here 7 out of 10 nights and breakfast every morning and practically everything that I could have needed was here. Two nights we ate at the pool and the food was outstanding, truly relaxing and delightful. Can't beat a quiet sunset dinner by the ocean in Hawai'i. We did have some spotty internet issues but an email to the owner that was promptly replied to proved to be helpful. Thanks to the owners suggestion, we spent some time at the pool bar getting to know Craig the bartender. Order his Mai-Tai...you won't regret it!
The grounds and surrounding area are fantastic and we took the opportunity to take some long exposure photos of the stars just outside of the lanai. I always have problems sleeping but the comfy, cozy king bed and the laid-back atmosphere of the complex really helped me unwind and sleep. I would certainly come back here again and I can't say enough nice things about the Hali'i Kai.

The title says it all - Halii Kai is a MUST holiday location UNIT 8-F getting a bit tired but still super nice.

Room Tip: Get to the pool early to stake your claim. Walk over to the Hilton to see the Dolphins play

“The good and the not so good”

All in all we had a very nice time staying at Halii Kai, but there was a problem. This was our second time staying here. We enjoyed it so much the first time we thought we would come back to celebrate my retirement. The grounds are fantastic, everything is well manicured and landscaped. The pool area is gorgeous. We ate at the bar/dining area several times and thought the food was very good. The room was ocean front, building #14, nicely decorated, top of the line appliances and furnishings. But, we stayed on a first floor unit, which was the problem: Noise. The people on the second floor above us had a kid. This kid ran nonstop, all day long, from the back of the unit to the front. All we could hear was the constant drumbeat of his feet through the ceiling into our unit along with chairs being dragged across the floor. We were gone most of the day so we only heard it at night or when we were in the unit during the day. We eventually called the management company. They said they spoke to the renter about the noise, but it continued for 3 days until they checked out.

What's my point? I never in my imagination thought I would have to hear noise coming through the ceiling into my unit in a place marketed as an upscale resort type community. You would think the units would be designed and built to avert this type of problem. When you stay in a good hotel you NEVER hear noise from the unit above. I'm not blaming the management company or the people upstairs causing the noise. The problem is the people who designed and built this place apparently didn't think noise transmission between floors would be a problem. Anyway, it didn't ruin our vacation, but did make me think about where we would stay next time. If noise isn't a problem for you, and/or you want to roll the dice, stay on a first floor unit. If not, we would probably stay here again, but would rent a second floor unit.

Room Tip: Second floor to avoid noise.

“Second time at Hali'i Kai and loved it just as much as the first time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

We stayed in 3A and it was great. The unit was clean and well stocked with everything necessary for a great vacation. We love the spa (hot tub) near the pool and watching whales while working out on the treatmill! Also, we used many services at the nearby Hilton. My husband and son played tennis there several times. We also stayed at another condo in Kona, which only reinforced our view that Halii Kai is the best. Quiet, safe, private, near the ocean, etc. We look forward to our 3rd visit!

“Beautiful Honeymoon Suite”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011

We stayed at Hali'i Kai in December 2011 for our honeymoon. The 2-bedroom, 2 bath suite was updated with beautiful decor, updated kitchen with granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances. We were in unit 21B, about a 5 minute walk to the private, secure pool and restaurant area. Our unit was quite, even though the condo next to us was full. We were on the ground floor, which was great to walk out onto out lanai and grassy area. There was a community bbq area, which was never used, so it was clean and quite outside out lanai. There was free wifi in our condo from the owners, which was great to keep in touch with family. The pool area was gorgeous, clean, with great views of the ocean over the lava rock wall which surrounded the pool and bar area. The food was also great - try the fish tacos, and generous drinks were reasonably priced! We would definitely go back again.

Room Tip: All rooms are great - Lower-numbered units are closer to the pool/bar area, but all suites are withi...
