We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite for a week while on the Big Island. The suite was well appointed with a nice kitchen, living area & full bathroom as well as laundry facilities downstairs. The bedroom was upstairs along with a master bathroom and huge walk in closet.
However, after spending a week on right the beach in Maui, we found staying in this resort on the Big Island like moving back to suburbia. In fact if you did not know you were on the Big island, you could have been in the middle of anywhere, so if you like it to be busier, this is not the place for you. The resort is on a golf course, however the way the units are laid out, most do not have any sort of view.
It is about a mile from the local beach, so not within walking distance and there are other beaches in the area to explore.
My wife & I were by ourselves here and I think this would be a better place more suited to a larger group.

Thank you for your business Roger,
Waikoloa Colony Villas is a quiet little spot. A lot of people like the feeling of not being in a busy place and the security of a gated resort. I can understand how you could conceive of us as suburbia because after being on the beach in Maui - that's a hard act to follow and we are a short walk to a local beach. We recommend taking a short drive to the two best beaches in Hawaii about 10 minutes away.
I lived on Maui in a resort for 5 years - right on the beach. Impossible to beat that but most hotel rooms in the Islands (about 95%) do not have ocean front or ocean view locations. Those rooms of course come at a premiuim price. But having lived on all the Islands I find Hapuna Beach and the beach at Mauna Kea to be the best beaches in Hawaii.
We are glad that you liked the unit you stayed in. The most common comment about our rooms is how spacious and clean they are. Each one is decorated individually so the "looks" are kinda unique too. But when you are here on this Island - the room should be the least of your concerns: The Holy Mountain and second tallest in the world has over 10 huge telescopes on the summit which is easily reachable from our property and the volcano on the slopes of the tallest mountain on the planet at Mauna Loa is just indescribable. Besides those attractions we have 5 National Parks on the Island, hiking, shopping, dining and a manta ray night trip you can't get anywhere else well.... there is no place like The Big Island.
And we appreciate your review - it gives an honest depiction of your experience and helps guests consider us an an option and what we offer. The lava fields we are surrounded by are not the ocean but a unique feature just the same. I'd say it's kinda like being in a barbeque grill but when the light hits these just right - there is no view like it on earth. And we get little rain here (only about 5 inches a year) so if people are looking for sunshine - come on over!
Roger, again - thank you for everything. And if you decide to "get away" to the solitude we offer on property just give me a call.
With Aloha,
