“We would not stay here again”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2011

We would not stay here again, nor would we recommend it to anyone. The staff was unfriendly. It appears that no one who works there is on sight during the off hours. We stayed in the Africa Room. It is very small and the layout was awkward. My husband and I had to climb over and walk around each other while attempting to get ready in the morning. After smacking our knees off of the corner of the bed at least 3 times, we resolved this problem by propping our suitcases at the corners to prevent this from happening again.

The continental breakfast is not included in the price. It's a Bed and BREAKFAST. Shouldn't breakfast be included in a B&B? If you'd like to add on breakfast, it's an additional $6 + tax. I highly recommend skipping this altogether and heading into Volcano Village. You can get a good, hot breakfast for about $10.

They have movies to rent for $0.99 + tax. They are terribly outdated and the B&B has a sticker on the movie cover that states they will charge your credit card $30 if the movie is not returned to them. For $30, they can go to Wal-Mart and buy 6 more up-to-date movies from the $5 bin!

On the plus side, it is extremely close to Volcano National Park and Volcano Village. However, that convenience would not validate our booking this B&B again.

Aloha. We are very sorry to read that this guest's stay was less than perfect. I truly wish we had more information about their concerns so that we could improve our product for future guests. We have been in operation for 25 years and continually change our product to better suit traveler needs and styles. We apologize for any inconvenience/mis-perception, however, we are not a B&B. We are a small rain-forest inn. When surveying our guests, we find that the vast majority enjoy our breakfast option and find it a great value (especially in our remote area as other options are very pricey even by Hawaii standards). In regards to DVD's, it is true that the guests rented DVD's during their stay for 99 cents ... perhaps our library could be larger, however, we try our best to stock products that apply to the general public. All in all, it sounds like the room was too small for the guests. We do state this fact specifically on our website multiple times on the room information page. All of our other rooms are more spacious and we go to great lengths to point that out. In addition, the room comes at a bargain price considering it's smaller size. It may be helpful to note that the room is not any smaller than some options in New York or San Francisco. It would have been helpful for the guest to discuss their concerns with us at some point during their 3-night stay; other rooms were available. We do our best to accommodate unforeseen circumstances with all of our valued guests. Aloha

One of the best location of our big Hawaii trip. Everything was perfect.
Not a "all day hotel" !!!! Rooms sooooo nice, you will never forget it.
Better as you can imagine.

“Wrong names, duplicitous names , multiple names = confusion”

I arrived in Volcano Village looking for Volcano Inn or Inn at Volcano (as I had received reservation info with those establishment names). Found out I was not at Inn at Volcano or Volcano Inn - but at Chalet Kilauea. I feel this company is using multiple names (4 last count just on the internet). They only have one lodge and it is (and has been) apparently known as only Chalet Kilauea until they hatched this internet mulltiple name scammy marketing campaigin.

Volcano Inn is actually a different lodge, and only goes by that name. It has been around with that name since the 1980s.

I am sorry to read about this traveler's confusion. The village tends to be a little confusing given it's small size, rural layout, and lack of signage. The truth of the matter is that we are not duplicating names. The names listed online or elsewhere are PHYSICAL lodges that we operate in Volcano Village. We operate a total of 3 lodges and also a collection of vacation homes. We have one office to administer check-ins and outs for all 4 of our products. Most don't find the setup confusing; we are sorry this guest did.

“Rain Forest Romance”

My husband & I spent 4 days of our honeymoon in the Treehouse Suite, and we really loved this property !!! The Treehouse Suite is 2 stories: first floor has 1) a kitchenette with sink, microwave, dinnerware, & fridge, 2) a very large marble bathroom with a shower, jacuzzi tub, & small TV, and 3) a private small deck with a table & chairs, surrounded by ferns, trumpet vines, and other beautiful plants !!! There is a spiral staircase to the second floor where the bedroom is located. It has a huge king-size comfortable bed, a large LCD TV with a DVD player (you can borrow DVDs from the office), & docking station for an I-Pod. I loved the view from the bedroom ... it overlooked the tops of the ferns ! There is housekeeping daily, which was a nice amenity (I had not experienced this before in other non-hotel accommodations).

The Treehouse Suite is steps away from the Ohana room, where afternoon tea is served and free Internet is available (we did not use this feature). In the office, you can purchase coffee for the room coffeepot as well as other sundries. A continental breakfast is available in the room adjoining the office, where we really enjoyed talking with Bob on our first morning in Volcano; I even learned some things about the Hawaiian language from him ! Outside of the office is a koi pond with stunning plantings, and bullfrogs that entertained us with their croaking.

The property is located just a few minutes from Volcano restaurants and Hawaii Volcanoes National Park; there are several restaurants and a laundromat close by. It is about 40 minutes or so from Hilo. I was very happy that we chose to spend part of our honeymoon here, as it allowed us time to explore this part of the island without having to spend hours driving from the Kona side.

We had lost electricity one night when we returned home, but all it took was a quick call to the office and it was remedied very quickly (just a breaker).

I would definitely stay here again and hope that I get a chance to someday !
My sincere thanks to the staff for a wonderful stay !

Thank you so much! Our property offers a special tropical rain-forest setting for all occasions. Couples in particular enjoy our amenities and elegant intrigue! ... all within 1 minute of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and the world's most active volcano!
