“Pi'i Mauna House a rustic cold option”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

While traveling with another couple, my wife & I stayed two nights at the Kilauea Lodge's Pi'i Mauna House. This is a duplex house in a residential area about 5 minutes from the Lodge and at the edge of a golf course. We were entertained by wild turkeys and pheasants moving across the lawn. The duplex is several minutes from the entrance to Volcanoes National Park. Although the bedrooms and baths are small they are very clean. Breakfast at the Lodge was good. Bad - the buildings have no central heat and the owners provide a small portable heater that only partly works and is inadequate to warm up the rooms. The morning temperatures were 50 degrees and the rooms were about the same temperature when we got up. The best we could do was dress quickly & leave the rooms. The shower in the bath accomodates someone who is very short. I am 5' 10" and had to almost get down on my knees to wash my hair. Bottom line: this is a very rustic option for two couples near the National Park. We would not return.

“Great location for visiting Hawaii Vocanoes National Park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Very comfortable rooms. Nicely furnished. Each room even has a water cooler. One mile from park. The breakfast which is included in the rate is delicious. The grounds are beautiful.

“Beautiful, lush area. Just a joy to stay there”

We needed a place to stay after getting out of Hilo. We lucked out when the Kilauea Lodge had an opening. What a beautiful and amazing lodge. quiet, serene and a cute kitty that lives there too! we got back to the lodge after our 4 mile hike at the crater. the hot tub was a muscle saver! felt great on our aching limbs!
Our room was small but quaint and had a gas fireplace which was great since it does cool down at night. Had towels for the hot tub and nice robes too. The sheets felt like butter, so soft! The rate included a full breakfast which was fantastic! I had oatmeal and hubby got the tropical french toast, delish! Loved the international fireplace in the dining room. The only thing that seemed odd was the lady that ran the office. not overly rude but certainly not overly friendly. Seemed bothered when we wanted to buy something in the office. All in all, stay here if you have chance!

“Best current choice in Volcano”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

Well regarded and well reviewed, we have little to add. They give you purified water, include an excellent lodge breakfast and have a very liberal cancellation policy unlike some other lodgings nearby. Book early for best rooms, as all are different. Stay at least two nights, even three, in area for maximum enjoyment of the park, including at least one major hike (Kilauea Iki is best for most people, although Mauna Ulu is fabulous), night viewing of the major glow from crater (plus stars like you've never seen before), lectures, etc. The common rooms of the lodge have many diversions for after dinner or just to take a break. Don't miss the art gallery next door to the visitors' center--some truly spectacular items.

Room Tip: Check website and ask staff to assist, as all rooms are unique.

“Great room, great food, great service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

We stayed in the Pii Mauna house the second week in January for a night. House is about 4 miles from the lodge and is in a quiet neighborhood. house backs up to a golf course. It is rustic but provided exactly what we needed- accomodations for a family of 5 in Volcano right near the entrance to the national park. Ther house was extremely clean and the space heaters provided along with the gas stove did a great job keeping the chill away at night. We were able to go back to the Jagger museum in the evening after the sun had set to view the glow of the lava and then head back home to bed. The next morning we enjoyed a fantastic breakfast (comes with the price of the rental) - Food was delicious -probably the best breakfast we had anywhere in Hawaii that week. I highly recommend the Kilauea lodge

Room Tip: Pii Mauna house Consiste of two sides - one side has a bedroom and kitchen - in between the two is a...
