We stayed in their cottage for two nights in mid-February. Barbara and Ernie never intended to run a B&B when they decided to move to Hawaii but got talked into it by the seller. They are doing a fine job for people that weren't driven to be travel hosts.
Breakfast: Barbara cooks a full breakfast. We had french toast one day and scrambled eggs the next. She serves pastries and juice, along with tea and coffee. Certainly, this is not a simple Continental repast.
Room: The Ali'i Room (the free-standing cottage) is not very big but it is very clean and has a decent bathroom (though the water wasn't very hot), a small cable tv, and a limited kitchen. The bed had a dual control electric blanket. While that isn't what most people look for when visiting Hawaii, remember that this place is located at 4000 feet above sea level and can get quite cool in the night.
Location: This is about a mile down the road from what passes for the Village of Volcano and two miles from the entrance to the National Park. It is easy to find and convenient for all things.
Hosts: Though fairly new to the area, Barbara and Ernie were very helpful in finding places to eat (there aren't many) and things to see. We had a wonderful time visiting with them at breakfast.
