“THE place to stay in Volcano”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 June 2011

We've stayed at all three Volcano Hideaway houses and all are very special, each in their own way. Haunani House is our favorite. Todd and Jillian are the best and pay close attention to details...no mildew on these shower curtains.

It's close enough to Hilo and also the Black Sand Beach at Punalu'u, yet a million miles away at night. Cool nights, comfortanle beds and furniture make lounging around and sleeping easy. We enjoy a short walk to grab a bite or a shot, or to pick something up at one of the two general stores.

Yea, there are lots of places in the Village you can stay. But there is a reason why we ALWAYS say with Todd and Jillian. No, I lie, there are lots of reasons. But, go and see for yourself...you can't go wrong.

“Fabulous accomodation very close to the park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 May 2011

We spent our first two nights in the Maids' quarters. A very comfortable little house, good for two people with a great bed and I can honestly say that since I had a spinal fusion in the past few months.
We had to move because of another reservation to Haunani House, which more than lived up to its description and pictures on their website. Todd and Linda have done a wonderful job on this house making it very comfortable and equipped with everything you could want. Even DVDs for a very rainy day inside. T hey have put a lot of thought into the decor of both places and they are delightful houses to stay in. We hope to return some day and would recommend them for anyone wanting a place very close to the park and owners who have a lot of advice to give.

“great location close to Volcano, lumpy bed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 March 2011

We stayed in the Maid's quarters for 2 nights. The house was much larger than we had expected and came equipped with everything you'd need to cook a great meal, which I recommend you do since there is not much to eat around Volcano Village. The heating system is one gas operated fireplace in the bedroom and a woodfire one in the living area. The shower pressure was not great but it apparently comes from rainwater collected on the roof and the bed was so lumpy I'm sure it was older than me. We had a very restless night here because of lumpy bed and would not recommend it for this reason.

The mattress in The Maid's Quarters is a Sealy Posturepedic Fenway Ultra Plush, purchased in 2005. It is in extremely good shape... perhaps the reviewer prefers firm top mattresses to the plush top, but to say that this mattress is old is inaccurate.

“Fantastic Volcano Getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2010

Haunani House at Volcano Hideaways is tucked away in a Volcanic rainforest less than 1 mile from Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park, Big Island, Hawaii. It is a charming 3 bedroom house that has been totally remodeled by the owner. Natural woods, marble countertops and tile flooring highlight the house. Each bedroom has it own special character with unique funishings. Hike in a rain forest or along old lava trails within the park. See ancient petroglyphs carved by Hawaiians. A must see is the active volcano! Highly recommended, Dennis and Nancy.

“Comfortable Getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 March 2010

We travelled here over the February school break. We stayed at Haunani House, a lovely house with 3 bedrooms, 2 baths. The setting is lush and green. The house was spic and span when we arrived. The beds were comfortable and came with warm comforters for the cold nights. The house has a full kitchen, and a general store for groceries is just a block away. There's also a great Thai restaurant within walking distance. Todd, the friendly host, directed us to a great beach and a hot-spring pool that we and our kids loved. Volcanoes Nat'l Park is just a mile away, and our hikes in the park were awesome. We even got to see the Nene, the elusive state bird of Hawaii!
