“Nice house, odd hosts”

We stayed here for one night recently on a trip to the National Park. Overall, we were happy with our stay, especially for the price. The house and room were spotlessly clean, and the room was spacious with a balcony overlooking the surrounding jungle and local pheasants. The location is unbeatable, just around the corner from a pretty good restaurant and general store and only a mile or so from the park.The hosts were friendly and helpful.

At the same time, it was clear that the hosts are cutting some corners. Soon after we arrived, they began arguing because he was feeding the pheasants that visit their yard and thus wasting their precious bread and crackers. The hostess also made several comments about how they were struggling financially, and made it clear they had some conflict with the absentee owner (the hosts tend the house but do not own it) about how the place was run. The conversation felt a bit inappropriate.

Here is one small example of their frugality: shampoo and bath soap were provided in refillable plastic bottles hand marked H for hair and B for body, which might have been ok but the bottles were stiff and it took a minute to get a useful amount out of each bottle.

The other main drawback was that breakfast was not provided other than coffee and a half papaya. The price was cut by 10% to compensate us, but Volcano is not a place with a lot of breakfast options and we found it annoying to have to pack up and leave in order to find something to eat.

“Beautiful hospitality, beautiful hosts, beautiful rainforest”

I loved my stay with hosts Drew & Nice! They were so warm, gracious and friendly that I'll be back! The inn was spotless and inviting. I travel quite a bit and have found this couple to be loving what they do and that to me is what sets innkeepers apart from others. This couple is first class and from the friendly aloha check in to hugs at the end of my stay is something I'll always remember...thanks Drew & Nice!

We stayed here for one night during our trip to the Volcanoes National Park. Our hosts were very friendly and helpful and the room was clean. The setting is lovely, like a rainforest and very peaceful.
We were a bit disappointed with the breakfast, which we felt was inadequate. We had to purchase breakfast elsewhere as what was provided was more like a snack.
Overall, we felt like something was lacking with this place. We felt we wouldn't rush back here, but trying to pinpoint the exact problem is difficult, because there were lots of positives.

“Beautiful experience, kind hearts...”

Nice and Drew welcomed us with warmth and kindness, felt like we were visiting friends! Accomodations were beautiful, but the spirit of our hosts made staying at the Inn like home!! Surroundings are stunning, rain and all! Waking up in the rain forest was spectacular, as our room had large windows on three of the four walls, so we could truly admire the forest!
Nice was so helpful in pointing out places and experiences of great interest, which made our first trip to Hawaii incredibly special! We highly recommend the Volcano Forest Inn for anyone visiting the Big Island, and wanting to be treated like family!!!

“Still Amazing”

Our first time here so was amazing we had to come back again...... The rooms are large, modern, clean and quiet. Perfect for a great night's sleep - comfortable beds & sooooo....quiet. The hosts are exceptional. Can't do enough for you. The second morning Nice got up at 6am just to ring the 4WD hire place to secure a vehicle for us - and left us to sleep in. What more can you ask? We were overwhelmed with the hospitality, again. And by the way the Volcano was amazing too.
