After returning this week from Hawaii, we would agree with much of all the different reviews written here, except for one major exception, the “hospitality” factor is sorely lacking here. In the process of booking our stay a month ago, I mentioned to Martie that we would be spending one night at the Bougainvillea Inn and another night near the Kona airport. Martie mentioned she was had 20 years experience in the travel industry and offered to take care of us, and give us the use of a newly redone condo that they owned. Upon arrival, I mentioned to Martie that I just noticed she had only booked us for one stay, and that was the Bougainvillea Inn. She denied that she made any other arrangement with me, and said “well that’s your fault; you should have said something before you got here.” She then looked at her notes and realized that indeed she had offered to make arrangements for us in Kona and would see what she could do for us. By the time, my husband and I went to bed that night, we were ready to check out early, miss the wonderful breakfast the reviews had mentioned and call it a “learning curve”. We asked a few questions and needed one or two things, and each time, Don was great and Martie was very negative. We enjoyed our contact with Don very much, but with Martie, instead of the wonderful “aloha spirit”, we felt apologetic for intruding at their Inn. The stay at Kona Seaside worked out well, and the price paid was my AAA price; nothing special. We recommend that Don be the person to interface with people and Martie can make her breakfasts that we heard so much about. It was a "Night To Remember" alright, and we plan on forgetting it as quickly as we possibly can.
