Don, Marti and "Akamai" were great hosts, and the breakfasts & coffee were great! Some minor repairs are needed about the place, but overall, it was very acceptable and comfortable. We enjoyed the ohana hospitality and the hours of "talking story" with Don & Marti at breakfasts. They were never rude to us in any way, and we felt totally at home there.

WE were there looking at homes to buy, and the location was perfect. Someone else mentioned the stars, and I got up 2 nights at 0300-ish just to look at the Milky Way. Wow, that was priceless.

WE're looking forward to staying & visiting with them again and are looking forward to being not-to-distant neighbors in Discovery Harbour.

Due to the tsaunami, we arrived early which was no problem for the gracious hosts, Marte and Don. Marte had arranged our rental car, and they also had great advice on sights to see, places to dine, beaches to visit. The Inn is located in a very quiet location with a comfortable clean room, so had a wonderful rest. Breakfast was a salmon omelet with fresh fruit and toast, and the coffee was perfect. We didn't get a chance to use the pool or hot tub, but they looked fine. The grounds had interesting landscaping and many birds. We'd stay here again if ever again on the Island. The aloha spirit is alive here--thank you.

I and my wife had to attend workshop in South part of the island, and we choose Bougainvillea because of location and affordability. We didn't expect much.However, we received much more, than expected. Very nice, warm place. We would like to return to the island for vocation, and definetely will stay at Bougainvilla, even if location and affordability will not be an issue. Thank you, Martie and Don!

Staying in this B&B was the only part of my wonderful trip to the Big Island that I regret and would take back in a heartbeat. The room we stayed in was old with thin walls, there was a dead bug in the bathroom, the pillows on the bed were stained yellow and the mattress was aweful. Oh, and I can't forget to mention that there was one flimsy "curtain" on the window of the room, through which everyone outside was able to see. I also did not like not having a personal key to the room; if we wanted to leave, we had to leave it unlocked. We stayed at several other B&Bs and one hotel while on the Big Island, and trust me, staying here is NOT worth the time and definitely not worth the money. We were charged $89, plus a $10 "service charge" plus another $10 or so of tax. It was a lot of money for such a place. Our money would have been much better spent had we bought a few blankets and a tent and camped out on the beach.

The only good thing about this B&B is that it is near Kula Kai Caverns, which was really interesting and had a wonderful tour guide.

As an end note, I really think the 5 star reviews must have been created by the proprietors; I saw nothing 5-star worthy about this place.
