“You will not want to leave”

This was our second time at the Mauna Lani Terrace. Both times we travelled there with our two young children who are now 4 and 6. We stayed in the same condo because it was very nicely decorated and had easy access to the pool. Most importantly, of all the sunsets were like a postcard every night. C201 was a very good choice in regards to being "childproof".
Also, the private beach club which can be accessed by car throught a gated community or by 5-10 min walk, is basically set on a lagoon and had 3-4 inch waves. More like ripples in the water, so not one worry about undertow or riptides.
The grounds are a natural wonder and perfectly manicured with a tremendous area of exploration just outside the door. Tropical vegetation, chirping birds, natural fish ponds and hugh sea turtles are also great for the kids.
The condo also has a few more advantages that we found to be very good when you have
kids. Since it is a condo, you can go up to the supermarket a half mile away and get what ever you need. A washer and dryer also come in handy. There are great restraunts also a half mile away, so if the kids get tired like ours did, dinner on the balcony is as easy as a five minute round trip in the car. If you want the more traditional vacation, the Mauna Lani
Hotel with all of its restraunts are approx 1000 feet away, and yes, they also do take out.
The only bad thing we found this time, but not the first, was that there were a few older uptight women who asked the kids to be quiet at the pool a few times. There are signs requesting that loud noise be taken to the beach. It does not say "no talking". Over 14 days total, during 2 trips, there were never more that 4-5 more people sharing the pool with us at any time. Usually we were there alone or with 1 other family/couple. So the majority of the time it is very private however, beware of the grumpy lady!!!! If you do rent and encounter this problem say what I said "it's not a library" followed by "if you wanted a private pool, you should have rented a house". This will shut them up.
Hopefully you will enjoy C201 like we did. We will be back for a third visit so take care of the place!!!!!!

“Magnificent Location - EXTREMELY POOR MANAGEMENT BY SOUTH KOHALA MANAGEMENT”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2011

This is our 5th visit to this resort, so obviously we have liked this location very much. The units managed by South Kohala Management are poorly upgraded, poorly maintained, and poorly cleaned. This month we were travelling with friends, who also have been here many times in the past. We selected and paid extra for what South Kohala Management called a "deluxe" unit. It was anything but deluxe. Kitchen has not been renovated since the unit had been built. Dirty grout on floors and counters, warped dirty cabinets and terribly old stained carpet. The shower in the 2nd bathroom leaked so badly that it ran into the bedroom. When we complained about the water leaking, the manager in the office told us to put more towells under the shower. It took much complaining to get them to change us to another unit.
The grounds, which are not maintained by them are immaculate and beautiful, and the whole resort area is georgous.
I would come back here again but would not ever rent from South Kohala Management which has poor standards and delivers poor service. This would be an "A" property if the units were maintained, renovated and cleaned well.
P.S. The fitness center charges $31.00/day per person.

Contrary to the information provided by this person, this condominium (D303) has been substantially upgraded in the past couple of years. The owners spent over $40,000 completely remodeling the bathrooms with travertine tile, new cabinets, and granite counter tops. The beds throughout are brand new, as is all of the living room furniture. All of the kitchen appliance are brand new and the condo was completely painted in 2009. Anyone can get a good look at how nice this property is by pasting this link in your browser.

The new shower in the second bath has a relatively flat floor and water can get out into the bathroom if one is not careful. The kitchen has not been completely remodeled yet but it is clean and in excellent condition. We have had (and still have) many happy customers staying in this property.

“H303 is the best!”

Our family had a wonderful vacation at Dave and Sandy's Mauna Lani Terrace H303 condo over Christmas. They have made their condo even nicer than it was when we stayed with them a few years ago. The condo is very tastefully decorated and the ocean view is fantastic. In addition, there are many other thoughtful touches that are above and beyond: freshly laundered beach towels, really nice bath products (usually I avoid the hotel offerings and use my own.) Big basket of local fruit, chocolate and kona coffee. They had beach stuff for us: cooler, mats, toys. And most important of all: really comfortable beds.

We will definitely stay there again next time we are on the big island.

“Nice resort....don't book with South Kohala Management. Go with private owners...VRBO”

We have been coming to this resort for 25 years and really enjoy the quiet and beauty. We have booked with South Kohala Managemnt several times as well as well as with owners directly. Every time we book with the management company we have had a very irritating experience. It is as if they are doing you a favour by allowing you to stay there. This time we were unhappy with our unit and asked to see others that were available. Ghastly! Dead cockroaches all over in one unit and mouse droppings and dead rodents in the other. When I told them this they just and said "oh yeah, some units have that problem". Unbelievable! We will visit the area again but never go through South Kohala Management so help me God.

These folks were staying in a one bedroom condominium with a nice ocean view but decided they wanted another unit. They asked our office if they could see some other units and the staff person provided them keys to look at other condos. We have an insect spray once a month at the Terrace to make sure the units are free of bugs. We are right next to the ocean and there tends to be a few more insects by the water.

A side effect of a good program of spraying is there may be a few dead bugs if a person walks into a condo that is vacant. We make sure that all condos are pre-cleaned the same day as arrival for our guests and, of course, all dead bugs are cleaned up. Some people feel that if they see a dead bug in a vacant unit that means it is not being cleaned. The fact of the matter is we are pest spraying regularly and there will often be a few bugs that end up on the floor after spraying and prior to being cleaned.

“Could have been better”

The location was excellent and overall this is a decent property. The beach available for use is very nice but unfortunately you are unable to use the pool or beach that is part of the attached hotel which should have been stated in the rental information. The unit itself is poorly maintained with multiple light bulbs burnt out and the shower door to the master unit would not close. The unit had not been used for almost a month because there was a note from the previous guests listing all of the things that needed to be fixed (and had not been) which was still in suite along with the keys. The bathrooms and kitchen were dirty because they had not been properly cleaned prior to our stay coupled with the fact that no one had checked the unit before we arrived. The floors were littered with dead insects because of the lack of use of the unit. My four year old son thought that the dead bugs were pretty cool however my wife did not. While I am aware that tropical locations attract bugs this would have been a non-issue if someone had vacuumed the unit immediately prior to our stay. I would not recommend this particular unit until the owner starts taking care of what I would consider very basic maintenance and cleanliness issues.
