“Beautiful setting, dated”

Unit: K-301.

First the good: Lovely setting. Roomy terrace overlooks palm-fringed fish ponds with a glimpse of ocean. No roads or cars in sight. Easy walk to private beach club, spa, and workout facilities.

Now the mediocre: Unit has a very '70's feel. It's been well maintained, but not updated, and it shows in the worn wood (of which there is a lot), tiled kitchen counters, and old bathroom fixtures. I think it was designed when Americans were fascinated with Japanese culture; it has wooden louvered sliding doors throughout. I found it a bit dark for my taste. There was significant grounds maintenance going on while we were there, including two extremely noisy days of tree care, and a day where we were asked to be absent for "pest control". We only had 1 day's notice, and sadly, it was one of the few days that we'd planned to sleep in and hang out for the morning.

For my dollar, I prefer a more modern unit with a less spectacular view, but I'm generally out doing things during daylight hours. If you want a place with a great view and nice lanai to enjoy it, you might like it.

Room Tip: You should be comfortable with stairs. 1st-floor units have stairs going down, 2nd and 3rd have sta...

“South Kohala Management provided great service at our fabulous condo”

My husband and I spent a week in this quiet, beautiful complex in September 2011. We booked with South Kohala Management, and found every step of the process to be friendly and easy. The SKM staff was helpful and knowledgeable about our unit, the complex and the general area. We stayed in a recently updated, immaculate one-bedroom unit that was furnished beautifully, and included a well-equipped gourmet kitchen and two full baths. The lovely and relaxing lanai was accessible from both rooms. We could walk to the beach, stroll around the fish ponds, watch incredible sunsets, and drive for a few minutes for groceries and restaurants. In addition there are restaurants and activities at the two beautiful hotels at the Mauna Lani resort. The golf course and public areas were beautifully maintained. We definitely will return!

“Mauna Lani Terrace Condos & South Kohala Mgmt”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2011

We just spent 2 1/2 weeks at the Mauna Lani Terrace before, during and after the Ironman and had a great time. We've stayed here two years ago when our travel agent booked us here, enjoyed ourselves and wanted to come back. South Kohala Management, who we had never heard of, managed the property. We checked in with them, they provided maid service and were on site for any problems we might have had, though there were none. They did help us get the "lay of the land" and we appreciated having someone local give us some tips since we had never been there before.

We booked this trip directly through South Kohala and, again, all went smoothly. With their on-site staff we felt we had the advantages of a hotel AND the advantages of a condo with more space, a kitchen and freedom from hotel prices. Though we did go to the hotel for some meals; the best of both worlds.

We would also recommend the Ironman as good time to book, if that event holds any interest to you. Kona is buzzing with Ironman athletes moving around, the roads have lots of them training and Kona has many triathlon oriented product vendors with booths, etc. Friday afternoon we went to the pier and watched the HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of dollars worth of beautiful high tech bikes being staged for the event next day. On Saturday we watched the bikes on the highway for awhile which was fun, but the best part was going down to the finish line late to watch the last people finish the race. Chrissie Wellington, the women's' winner, was there to greet every late finisher with a hug. The announcer has a short bio of each athlete and regales all with some info about each athlete, many with truly inspiring stories. The trip to the finish line required a detour way up the hill and then back down to Kona to find a place to park so our cars were not on the road with the athletes but we were able to park a short walk from the finish line.

We booked our car through South Kohala's site, too. I was concerned about getting a car easily during the Ironman but we had no trouble getting a car or feeling the car rental rate was spiked up during the event.

All in all, a great experience. We're Big Island focused for our sun & heat fix vacations for the near future.

“Great Experience!”

Spent two weeks at the Mauna Lani Terrace Condiminiums on the Big Island of Hawaii with South Kohala Management. We had a great experience. The unit was updated and included thoughtful amenities and our check-in was quick and friendly. i really appreciate those folks at South Kohala Management after a miserable experience renting directly from an owner where the refrigerator failed our last three days and wasn't fixed until after we left!

“Great condo and great location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2011 via mobile

My wife and I stayed at G301 during our 7 day vacation to Kona. The condo is perfectly situated; it's a 3 min walk to the main hotel (restaurants, shops etc), while still secluded with a great ocean view. The condo was a very large 1 bedroom that could easily sleep a family of 4, it's very clean and has all the amenities you will need.
