We spent 10 nights on the Big Island, doing a complete tour around it. We started in Kailua-Kona, then went onto Volcano Village, and spent our last 2 nights at Aaah the Views. We wanted a nice place to stay that was close to both the airport and Kohala beaches for our final day on the island. We didn't want to stay at a big resort or a trashy hotel, and Aaah the Views fit the bill.
Aaah the Views is a funky but clean, pleasant place to stay. It is a large house in a residential neighborhood that has been converted into a B & B. The hosts live in a small building (former garage?) adjacent. Like many houses that have been converted into multiple units the layout is funky and awkward. We stayed in the Dreams Suite, where you enter in the bedroom, go down a hallway to the (minimal) kitchen, then turn the corner and head into the spacious bathroom, and beyond that is the deck. The nicest room in the suite was actually the bathroom, and we ended up spending most of our time hanging out there, sitting on the stairs to the deck. The "kitchen" was tiny and had a full sized fridge, but only a microwave and a hot plate. It was far from an ideal place to cook a meal.
As with other converted homes, noise was an issue. We were on the bottom floor, and could hear every step our upstairs neighbors took, as well as their conversations. This was especially annoying at 5 in the morning, when our neighbors were up and about.
The hosts were very nice and helpful. The breakfast was basic-- bagels, cereal, fruit, and boiled eggs. Our host did make banana bread one morning, which was yummy. From my past experiences the breakfast is usually one of the best things about a bed and breakfast, but not so remarkable here. Just simple and healthy.
I guess that part of our disappointment about this place is that the other two places we stayed at on the island were amazing-- ocean front condo in Kona, private cottage in the rainforest. They were both *exactly* what we were looking for. This place was, in comparison, underwhelming-- besides the fact that this was the most expensive place we stayed on the island!!!
On that note, it is very close to Kohala beaches, as well as close to the airport. It is relatively clean, the hosts are welcoming and helpful. If you need a place to stay while "in transition" then it's a nice spot. But don't make this place the focus of your trip-- you'll be disappointed.
