“Charming B&B in Kona hills with a great host!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 February 2011

We spend the first 3 nights of our Hawaii trip at this B&B and it was a great way to start. There are 2 units located at opposite ends of the house, so our room was private and quiet (except for the occasional squealing of the wild pigs at night). From 1000 feet up in the Kona hills, we enjoyed the view of the Kona coast. It is located about 15-20 mins from the airport, to the Kona Village and to the Costco so you aren't too far from anything.

The owner, Lonn, really made us feel welcome. He prepared lavish breakfasts at a time convenient to us. The items varied each day. For example, fresh papaya and thick french toast with pecans and real maple syrup. We truly enjoyed the house coffee made with beans grown behind his house!

Lonn was very helpful, lending us boogie boards to head to the beach, giving us advice about restaurants and activities. He's a character, but in the best sense of the word.

Tip: Buy Lonn Amour's coffee and have him ship it home for you. The 1 lb bags ($20) make great gifts and Lonn packed and shipped quickly so the coffee was waiting for us when we got home. Thanks Lonn!

“We can't wait to go back!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2011

My husband and I stayed at this B&B for three nights during our 2 week honeymoon on the islands of Hawaii. This was by far the best place we stayed at during our trip. Lonn is a great host; the breakfasts he prepares are even better than the fantastic reviews that were written. He serves breakfast and then comes out with his cup of coffee to check on you and see if you need any recommendations or help with your plans for the day. The grounds are very relaxing and secluded, but just ten minutes away from town when you do decide to head out and about. The rooms are large and each have their own private lanai. He grows his own Kona coffee, and we have since had him ship us some so that we can have a little bit of Hawaii back here at home every morning; delicious! We would definitely stay here again in a heartbeat and hope to go back someday for an anniversary trip!

We had a wonderful stay at the B & B. Lonn was a wonderful host, magnificent cook, and a great guide to things we should see.

“Great B&B to stay at!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 December 2010

It is difficult to proclaim one B&B as the "best", because all have different fortes.
Hale Hualalai is "home away from home". The host, Lonn, a bachelor and retired cook, makes fantastic breakfast, and walks the extra mile to make sure they guest feel comfortable and at home.
What we liked:
- he has only two suites to rent, this is definitely not a conveyor belt type operation.
- What would you like to have for breakfast, and when? Great flexibility, no house rules shoved into your face as you arrive.
- Down to Earth, laidback, spontaneous Hawaiian style
- Good and accurate advice and route info to local food, beaches, sights, beyond what you can gleam from a tourbook.
- Quiet, spacious, clean rooms, comfortable bed, free parking, free high-speed internet
- Beach chairs and towels you can use during your stay.
- Introduction to growing your own Coffee - delicious!

There was nothing we did not like. It's worth mentioning that the B&B is about 10 minutes away from Kona on a winding road, so it is definitely not on the Beach or walking distance from restaurants. The surroundings are fairly rural, but the suite was great!

“Cool Digs in Kona.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2010

What a great place to stay. The island, the town, the B & B! Located above the heat of the beaches, it is a phenomenal place to sleep, cool down and to eat the "AWESOME" breakfasts! YUM! If you are looking for a B & B in the Kona area, you are done looking! This is the B & B you want. Lonn is an outstanding host and an excellent chef in our opinion. He has been on the island for a couple of decades and knows the island extremely well. The other B & B we experienced, the hostess was from PA and had been in HI for 4 months and the buffet was not very impressive. And the 100% homegrown Kona Coffee was a huge plus. My wife and I will return, no doubt.
