“Would Stay Here Again”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

This comfortable, small hotel is just a short walk from many restaurants and other interesting destinations in downtown Hilo. The small kitchenette will be appreciated if you visit the excellent farmers market, just a short wallk away. Don't miss the beautiful tropical garden behind the hotel. When available, you can even pick your own starfruit from trees overhanging the parking lot. The self-serve continental breakfast in the lobby is a must do.

“Delightful Gardens”

This is a very nice, small hotel. The rooms are clean and very adequate and we appreciated the small kitchen. The staff is extra friendly and helpful, and we got so we looked forward to our return each day to tell them of our travels they had suggested. Coffee in lobby area was very good, and the banana bread or pineapple muffins each morning were delightful. Also, nothing like having fresh bananas (you twist them off the stem) and fresh picked papayas every morning! The coqui frogs noise is loud, but we got used to it....almost like white sound, and you can't really escape it anywhere on the Windward side! We'll gladly return!

Room Tip: We enjoyed room 16 with a lanai.

“Lovely spot!”

We recently spent one night at this beautiful location in Hilo. The setting is lovely (especially the walk out back), the room was very comfortable, the location is easy and very quiet, and the owners/staff were so very friendly and helpful. This is a perfect place to spend some time in Hilo. And, while everyone probably visits the volcano from here, don't miss the Botanical Gardens north of Hilo. They are absolutely amazing!

“We were serenaded to sleep....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2012

Our stay here was great. We were only able to stay one night, due to our reservations on the other side of the island.

We stayed in suite 18 on the second floor -- it was very nice and spacious. There were four of us and it was the only time we were on the trip where we could spread everything out. The decor was Hawaiianish (reminded us of the Brady Bunch episode). There was a living room, a kitchenette, a bathroom and a bedroom. Four beds -- three twins and a queen. The water pressure in the tiled shower was awesome -- a big plus in my book.

My sister was a little disconcerted with no A/C and the ruralness of it, but this was her first time in Hawaii.

We left the windows open and the temperature was perfect. They do give you earplugs though -- for the frog noise outside. In a way it was musical -- kind of like listening to crickets at home. Could I deal with it every night of my life - probably not. But for a vacation it added to the experience.

I highly recommend this hotel and make sure you check out their little pathways in the back -- you will feel like you are on the set of "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" with the massive trees.

Room Tip: FYI there is no elevator but the stairs are not steep.
