“A perfect place to stay.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

We recently spent two nights at the Shipman House to celebrate our 45th anniversary. This was our second time staying there and we returned because of the wonderful experience we had many years ago.

As before, we loved everything. The home is so beautiful inside and out and is filled with so many interesting things, many of which are family heirlooms. Although the rooms have museum quality items, the mansion still has a homey feel. Our room was huge, super clean, and very comfortable. The breakfasts were fabulous with a huge variety of fresh and unusual fruits, delicious homemade mac. nut granola, breads, etc., etc.

Barbara and Gary are wonderful hosts who enjoy sharing their beautiful home with others. They were spot on with restaurant recommendations and activity suggestions.

This B & B is one of our all-time favorites!

Room Tip: We stayed in Auntie Carrie's Room in the main house.

“Living History”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 February 2012 via mobile

My husband and I stayed three nights in the guest house. We particularly enjoyed the casual comfort of our large, airy room. Breakfasts were excellent...those staying in Hawaii B&Bs must know that hot breakfasts cannot be served. The Shipman House provides generous selections of fruits, breads, oatmeal, etc...all you could desire. The history of the home is fascinating...and the collections of art and authentic furnishings a treat to explore. The grounds are beautifully maintained and the hosts friendly and helpful. If you like historic places, you will love the Shipman House. And the kimonos provided for use by guests are just right.

“Wonderful bed and breakfast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

We stayed at Shipman House for two nights. It is a very special place to stay . Absolutely spotlessly clean, in a great position where you can just walk into town . Breakfast was perfect and the owners Gary and Barbara deserve all the wonderful reviews they have been given by other guests.

“romantic and hystorical”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

We have stayed in this place with our friends as a part of our trip to Hawaii. This hotel (museum rather than hotel) gives you touch of beautiful Victorian time. Atmosphere, location in the nature, history of the house makes this place very special. Thanks to Barbara and hers husband Gary, the owners of the place, you feel very relaxed in this great place. Thank you for very warm welcome. Our feeling was - they have taken care of every possible and impossible situation you may get on island.
Do not expect too much comfort (historical beds, restrooms, etc.), but difficult to expect more in the historical place.
Very healthy and jammy breakfast! Don't miss it!
This is a place you would definitely would like to return in your next trip. We had nice recommendations for the dinner. Especially we liked Thy food restaurant where you can bring your own wine with no extra charge. Nice surprise compare to other places you been triple or even more times overcharged for your drinks.

“just refering to the "FLYING TERMITES" review....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

the flying termites is not a HOUSE problem... which means its not comming out of the house... its termites from elsewhere that fly towards the lights...it comes seasonaly like winter and fall, so unless u want to be sleeping with termite it would be better for you to have just turn out the lights and i know the Shipman house very well and the reason they tell you no shoes is because its common hawaii respect to take your shoes off when entering someone elses home. and the reason for not rolling luggage is because it is a historic house and the hard wood floors are original so if your rolling luggage decides to leave a 20 foot long gauge in the floor of this historic house im sure you wouldnt want to pay for that so its just better to be safe then sorry!
