“It's like home without the chores.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2011

We rented both rooms so we had the whole common area to ourselves... lots of reading materials and maps of attractions around the area... several board games provided for guest use. The neighborhood is quiet and private. The place is clean and spacious. The owners are friendly and accommodating (We felt like family during our morning/afternoon conversations with them.). The location is excellent. We loved this place!

“A home away from home- definitely the place to choose!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 August 2011

We spent 5 days in the Big Island, and fortunately chose this B&B. Charlotte and John’s warm welcome began even while we were away, planning our trip. Their swift responses to all our questions and their willingness to help with finding accommodation to the only night they weren’t available were outstanding. Actually meeting them was a great bonus for us. A wonderful couple, that let us feel like we were among family. Due to availability issues we stayed three days at The Hawaiian Tropical Suite and two days at The Blue Ginger Suite (larger room and bathroom). Both suites were clean and cozy with complementary internet access (which is a “must have”). The breakfast is superb including hot drinks, cereals, milk, fresh fruit, bread, butter, jam and Charlotte’s delicious muffin (which we didn’t manage to overcome during breakfast but were “take away” treats that helped us a lot during long trip days). It was very helpful to use the refrigerator (there is also a microwave). Charlotte and John provided helpful information and even equipped us with a very helpful guidebook (of Andrew Doughty). They are just the couple for this kind of business. They love people and it shows! We wish them health and happiness and we advise you to spend all your vacation in the Big Island there. It’s defiantly worth it.

“Homesick after leaving Holme's”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 August 2011

My husband and I stayed with Charlotte and John as part of our honeymoon trip. I didn't know what to expect, since it was my first time staying at a bed and breakfast. It ended up feeling like we were at home! In addition to our well-maintained and clean room, we had a front porch and a lovely "common" room to play cards and read. Charlotte and John were very helpful with travel advice and were so attentive to details in making our stay very special. There are too many specifics to list here. The fresh fruit and freshly made baked goods (muffins or scones) in the morning hit the spot too. We had to miss breakfast our last day to catch a flight, and they packed us a "breakfast to go". Thanks for the great memories!

“Welcoming and Relaxing, we hope to return for another visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 July 2011

We spent two nights at Holmes Sweet Home B & B. Our daughter, her husband and baby accompanied us . From the time we stepped out of our car we felt welcomed by Charlotte and John. The large sitting area inside as well as the marvelous covered front porch were wonderful places to sit and visit, and a great place for the baby to crawl and explore. John and Charlotte were very helpful with information about things to see in the area and places to eat.

This B&B is located in a quiet, residential neighborhood, but it's just minutes from local sights and downtown Hilo. We loved all the lush plants and the local geckos and frogs.

“A home away from home - loved our Hawaiian Family”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 July 2011

We spend three fantastic days with Charlotte and John at their great B&B at Hilo. The whole stay was a real gem. It starts with our arrival at the afternoon of the first day - there was a sign out there with our names and where we were being welcomed. Then John and Charlotte welcomed us with such a warm Aloha Spirit, it felt like we knew each other for years.

The room was spacious, clean and real comfortable. A huge bathroom is next to our room, which was the blue ginger suite, including a twin and a single bed.

In front of our room was the huge lanai, where you can take your breakfast or spending some nice moments out there, having great views of the flowered garden or watching Hilo Bay.

Breakfast was excellent, the fresh and warm homemade muffins of Charlotte were so yummy - also fresh fruits every morning. You can use the microwave, fridge or cereals whole day - great complimentary offer. The talk in the morning with Charlotte and John was great - we got so many information about the Big Island and especially Volcano N.P., because Charlotte worked in the Jagger Museum for years.

During our stay the NBA Finals had been held - it was so funny watching the finals together, for us - as germans - supporting the Mavs and also John and Charlotte were supporting them, because Mavs Center Tyson Chandler is some part of the family. You can't imagine how we were celebrating the championship.

When we go back to Hawaii we will def. go back to the Holmes Sweet Home, go back to our hawaiian family. Thanks to the whole Holmes family for that great experience - mahalo, aloha and take care!!!
