“Quiet and clean rooms, good price as well!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2011

We stayed for 2 nights, had breakfast at the table with other guests for one morning and had a packed b'fast to go the next morning. Both were great and you do not go hungry! We stayed in the Bamboo room and by far it is the smallest but we were not there much so it worked out ok. The bathroom is very small as well. Given a choice I would have chosen one of the bigger rooms only for the space...Other than that we thought the place was great. We travel in the day a lot so only look for a clean, nice spot to sleep. And this was great! The yard was so nice to look at as we sat on the porch and it was very quiet!

“Beautiful Glimpse of Old Hawaii”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 December 2011

Stewart and Lori's relaxing B&B is located in a fabulous historic house built in the 1930's (I think), in a peaceful area of dignified houses and lush mature landscaping. The yards on their side of the street back up to a river gorge! The neighborhood will make you say, " This is exactly where I would want to live, if I lived in Hawaii," but luckily for you, you are on vacation and don't have to do the yardwork necessary to keep the tropical jungle manicured!
The yard of the B&B is full of 30 or more types of tropical fruit trees and all kinds of fascinating plants that you probably don't have in your garden at home.
The rooms here are comfortable and beautifully decorated, and the hosts have provided all sorts of extras for you: books, games, beach towels, and toiletries. Breakfast was really outstanding- seasonal tropical fruit salad (mine had star apple, which is a yummy purple glittery fruit which I had never had before), fruit smoothies, and the absolute best scones (macademia nut) that I have ever had.
Remember that B&Bs aren't for everyone! You will be a guest in someone's home and there will not be 24-hour services, like in a resort, BUT if you want a quiet, relaxing stay, helpful information on the area from long-time residents, AND a truly good deal, you will love the Old Hawaiian!!

Room Tip: Read the descriptions on the website about the different rooms (each is different) and book way in...

Stay here!! Do you want a cleanliness? Stay here!! Do you want silence? Stay here!! Do you want to hear the coquis? :) Stay here!!

It was really really wonderful our stay!

“Great place to stay! Thanks Lori!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 September 2011

This was overall a great bed and breakfast and great value. The backyard is amazing, very lush and full of delicious fruits; make sure you get Lori to give you "the tour". The breakfasts were amazing, fresh fruits (mostly) from the backyard, fresh smoothies and freshly baked pastries (the coconut scones and the monkey bread were my favorites!). Lori was really nice and happy to chat with you if you wanted (or leave you alone if you so preferred). The room we had was nice and private and opened up onto the Lanai (deck). The overall neighborhood was beautiful and only a short drive to downtown Hilo or the airport. The only criticism we had was that the bathroom (in room) was not very private; they could easily put a real door on the bathroom and close it off at the ceiling.

“Everything was excellent..”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 September 2011

the food was excellent..the rooms were immaculate..Lory and Stewart are great hosts..I will stay there again when we visit the Island. The grounds have soo much to see, they are just far enough away from downtown that you feel safe, but close enough to get to the stores in 10min. Perfect spot to visit!

Room Tip: the Hawaiian room if the best!
