In short: stay away. Details are below.
Hostess: Maureen is very friendly and nice, though she is obsessed with horses and her cat. Maureen allows her cat to do basically everything: sleep on your bed, jump on you when you have breakfast, sit on your car… I do mind that, cat spoiled our suitcase.
House: big and spooky, looks and feels like a museum. I liked that actually. However, it was very dirty: dust and cat’s hair was everywhere.
Breakfast: Maureen does not have a working stove (that’s what she told us), hence nothing will be prepared. A typical breakfast is a bowl of bananas/papaya and waffles. Those that don’t eat carbs can forget about breakfast here. She cannot even boil an egg.
Bathroom: all bathrooms are shared. The one upstairs is useless. You have to hold the spray handle and shower with one hand. Sink is useless too: 2 nozzles with hot and cold water separately, they are also short so you cannot even get your hand underneath it. The bathroom on the other side is nice though, but we were not allowed to use it.
What’s advertised and were not there at all: no usable fireplace, no washer, no dryer (for guests)
Room service: there was none. She got into our room just to open the windows. No dehumidifier, so in Hilo’s humidity everything is wet all the time, including the bed.
Price: significantly overpriced for what is offered.
