“The perfect place to stay on the big island”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

Steve & Janice clearly care about their guests having the best possible big island experience. In addition to clean & comfortable rooms, lovely refreshing breakfasts of native fruits, and the coolness of being at 1000 ft, they also provided suggested itineraries, made dinner & activity reservations and provided snorkeling equipment & beach towels. The location was perfect, accessible to the Kona beaches & dining, volcanoes, northern coastal rd and saddle road to the observatory & to Hilo.

“Quiet Place with Gourmet Breakfast, Wonderful Hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 November 2011

If you want to eat the best gourmet breakfast and get treated royally, this might be the place for you to stay. My husband and I stayed here four nights and were pleasantly surprised by the wonderful travel tips, cleanliness and overall ambiance of this place. Not far from Captain Cook Bay that has great kayaking, hiking, snorkeling, and visiting the historic refuge, this place is a quiet stay near Kona.

Room Tip: We loved the roomy Rose Room, but the others looked nice too.

“Terrific B & B with gracious, knowledgeable hosts”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 November 2011

We just returned from a great stay at a 4 room B & B on the Kona Coast of the Big Island. The 4 room inn is run by Steve and Janice, who are very friendly, warm and engaging. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The breakfasts are delicious and huge (you will not need lunch). Best of all, Steve and Janice have lived there for 12 years and have incredible knowledge of the Big Island's treasures - we discussed each days plans with them over breakfast. (They even have typed sheets for daily itineraries for various regions of the island; in my opinion, more helpful than the guidebooks). They provided (at no additional charge) snorkeling equipment, beach mats, beach towels, etc. A great find where we will stay again on our next trip to the Big Island.

“Best food of our 1 month island-hopping honeymoon”

What a great find! We were lucky to find this place and booked it moments from taking our flight. We used it as our base to explore all of the big island with the exception of volcanoes national park with our rental car. The room was great, reasonably priced and the food - oh my goodness! We had such big breakfasts, we never had to eat lunch. Strongly recommended if you are staying near the Kona area.

“A wonderfull stay on the Big Island”

The Areca Palms is an amazing bed and breakfast. The rooms are warm, inviteing, clean and well maintained. The grounds are impecable and the hosts are wonderful. We chose to stay here because of the reviews in both Fodors and Frommers and they underestimated the Areca Palms. I would say this is the place to stay. We were here for three nights and our hosts provided a great breakfast everyday, tips and destination insights and a very beautiful area to relax in. It is just off the main road with beautiful views and natural habitat.. waking up to the birds and phesants in the distance is awesome. Why you would want to stay in a hotel when this has it all and close to all the great snorkeling is besides me...
Absolutely no negatives.

Room Tip: All the rooms have private baths except for the willow room. But for this one the bath is just acros...
