The hotel is worth staying at for its location if you want to actively explore the Kona side of island. However, you have to be aware that this is not the hotel from your TV/movie based Hawaiian dream - it's an older property, where no or very little improvement must have been made during last 20 years...
GOOD: location (see title), spacious rooms, every day fresh towels, PRICE(!).
WORSE: location (roadside - traffic can be heard), very poor sound isolation between rooms (you hear everything people do in their rooms... and this IS very awkward!), front door does not come to the floor, so roaches (as in some previous reviews) can be reality - we only saw one, but I guess that's quite enough... bug spray was provided as we reported the problem to reception.
ALL IN ALL - acceptable if you want to explore the island, avoid if you want to stay at the hotel for most of the day.

This is a very nice older property that is very well run and very clean. The newer motle type building has a distant view of the ocean, but no TV's, which we did not miss. This was our second stay at this place and were not disapointed. It is in a rural area and the roosters will crow and wake you up in the morning. They also have a resturant that is old fashioned and serves very good meals reasonably.

A very unassuming exterior, cozy retro interior. This could be the most unpretentious place you'll ever eat at. Four of us had lunch there. The server was really friendly and happily answered our millions of questions. She let us know which was the freshest fish and what was frozen. Nt a lot of options, don't go if you want a salad for lunch. The fish we had was excellent. We tried it both pan fried and sautéed in garlic butter. Had some sides served family style. This is a really casual place with really simple food, but ey are doing it right. Be aware they are closed on Monday's and are only open for a few hours at lunch and a few hours at dinner. We want to go back and try the pork chops....

GReat local Hawaiian food and digs! Lovely japanesegarden outback. I painted the water lilies all afternoon.
