“Dinner at the YVI”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2011

We were on a long term stay in Wapiti and we were lucky enough to have dinner at the YVI 2 times. The service was fast and everyone was friendly. None of that would mean anything if the food wasn't great. I had a HUGE pork chop with blanched green beans and a baked potato, my wife had an open face sirloin steak sandwich and a bowl of homemade stew. Even with the huge portions, we didn't leave anything but bones and bread crumbs.
When we go back to Yellowstone in the spring, the Yellowstone Valley Inn will be the place for good dinners out.

You may first want to decide why you're staying here. This was the first time we came to the west and was looking for a true western vacation. When doing an internet search I chose carefully(so I thought) to get the best experience. the website was enticing which was why I chose it. The restaurant and gift shop were nice but the hotel was about as far from relaxing as you can get. we had a ground floor unit with someone above us and on both sides. The room was not clean. There was still hair in the shower, no complimentary shampoo and a tiny bar of soap to divide between the shower and sink. we usually bring our own anyway so that wasn't too big a deal. But the walls were made out of paper. We heard everything the people on both sides of said and even heard the man every time he used the bathroom upstairs. (No kidding!) At 4:00 am the upstairs guests checked out and every step they took was amplified over our bed. It was just normal moving around, no fault of theirs. We slept so little that we just got up ourselves and left as well. So my opinion is if you're looking for a quick stop-over this is ok but we we're looking for more of an enjoyable experience and this wasn't it for us.

Room Tip: There were cabins available which would probably provide more privacy and be much quieter. Don't...

So sorry to hear you had noisy neighbors. We're working on the sound deadening but it is tough when working on old properties. Our hotel has only 4 rooms upstairs and 11 downstairs. We use 2-3 rooms for employee housing and have been putting the employees on the downstairs end rooms, but have decided to move them to the rooms located below the upstairs rooms and give the customers the end units with no upstairs neighbors. I have been in contact with our contractors to find the best solution to eliminate noise between rooms. When you are comparing your options in our neck of the woods you'll find there are no new or even newer lodging facilities with in 50 miles of Yellowstone in any direction. As I've noted before no one is spending millions of dollars to build facilities in and around Yellowstone for a 3 month season. So you have people like my wife and I who take on the challenge of saving these old facilities. Price wise lodging in Cody or Jackson Hole runs 35-100% more and our location is second to none with a beautiful 30 min. drive to the park. Also staying an hour drive from the park makes it much less convenient for day trips in and out of the park. Yellowstone Valley Inn is not just our business, it's our vocation and you can rest assured we're doing everthing in our power to improve it every year.

“Not terribe, but not great”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2011 via mobile

After reading all the reveiws about the backup and other things and on top of that the owner seemed very rude in the reviews l still was optimistic about trying the place. When we got there it took us 25 minutes to get checked in. After we got settled in and tried to take a nap we heard a fourwheeler goin all around so we decided to brush it off out and go see the town! It was great but a ling drive! Then all that night we heard people!! It sucked

Great news from Yellowstone Valley Inn. It is now early Feb. 2012 and I have a contractor at the resort soundproofing the walls and ceilins. Also working on a contract for 15 new bathrooms. All work is scheduled to be completed before May opening. Very exciting (and expensive!)

“We loved the Cabins, and the staff was excellant!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 September 2011

This was a beautiful place to stay, the cabins are not huge, but for my husband, myself and our kiddo it was just fine. The most important thing to me was how clean it was, I am really OCD and HATE staying places that are un-clean, and this cabin was very clean. I do see that some people have posted some pretty negative comments about the conditions of the cabins and the staff that work there.
Some of you need to realize that these cabins are very old, and for the age that they are, they are in very great shape. We have stayed in places that are very un-clean, and dated, and at a higher price I will add.
The staff was amazing to my family and me. When we checked in, my kiddo thought he was starving and it was about 3pm and the Restaurant was closed and wasn’t going to open until Dinner time. The owner called in a couple staff and they cooked us a great lunch.
Overall our stay was wonderful, and we will definitely be booking again with The Yellowstone Valley Inn.

“Fantastico!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 September 2011 via mobile

We stayed here for our anniversary and it was great!!! The service was excellent. It was great being able to bring our dog with us. The only thing I would improve on was the breakfast... But it was still a great value!
