I stayed here with my husband and two friends when we came here in early July 2011 for a friend's wedding. We stayed in Gros Ventre, Unit B6. We had an extremely negative experience with the people who work here.
My friend made the reservation. Because we rented a car, she called the management of this lodging multiple times to confirm that our rental included a parking spot. Each time, she was assured that part of what we were paying for was a confirmed parking spot.
We paid about $600 for the three nights that we stayed here (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights). On Saturday night, we returned to the unit a little bit before 11pm after our friend's rehearsal dinner. There was no parking in the lot for our unit. We called the front desk. The woman working at the front desk was very nice, but fairly incompetent. She said that she did not work nights so she "did not deal with parking." At this point, we were already unimpressed. This lodging should always have someone working who can deal with whatever comes up, or at least be able to call a supervisor for help. The woman recommended that we just park in the lot of the building two structures down from us "because they don't require permits." We drove down to that lot, but there was no available parking.
I called the woman back and told her there was nowhere to park. She had us drive back to the front desk and get a permit from her for a different parking lot. The permit that she gave us was for the Whiteridge property, which is the farthest property on the same street as our unit. The street that this lodging is on is very dark at night (no streetlights), and there are no sidewalks. The four of us (my husband and three women in heels) had to walk along the dark road. Several times, we had to jump off the road because a car was coming.
I called the front desk the next morning to register our unhappiness with the situation. We felt strongly that we had paid $600 for both lodging and parking. Indeed, we had confirmed multiple times that we were paying for a parking spot outside our unit. When we booked this unit, we were never told that parking might sometimes be unavailable or only available at a distance.
The supervisor at the front desk, Amy (she said she was "Operations Manager" for this lodging) was defensive, unhelpful, and downright rude. I began the conversation politely, explaining what had happened the previous night. Before I even asked how she could make us feel better about this experience, she explained that the parking situation was not within their control because people must have been parking illegally in the lot. I told her that it was their responsibility to have some way to tow illegal cars out of the lot, and she said that they do not have that power because some of the units are owned by individual homeowners. She said it was an issue for the homeowner's association. As I told her, if they advertise parking (and indeed tell us that part of what we're paying for is parking), it is *their* responsibility to provide that parking. If that means that they have to work something out with the homeowner's association, then that's what they should do. She was not receptive to me at all--indeed, she cut me off at various times.
When I told her that we would like them to make it up to us in some way, perhaps in the form of a small refund, she said, "Well, I am the Operations Manager and I have determined that there is no cause for a refund." I said, "Well, what are you going to do to fix this situation for us?" She said, "I'm going to talk to the homeowner's association about the parking, and that's how I'm going to alleviate the situation." I told her that her proposal did not alleviate anything for us, and she said that was too bad.
While the parking situation was upsetting when it happened, what was really terrible for all of us was how it was handled the next morning. Amy was incredibly unprofessional. Even if she had remained unwilling to give us any kind of discount, she should have apologized for our experience (she *never* said she was sorry about what had happened). I think we all would have felt better about the situation.
In terms of the unit itself, it was fine. It was homey and cabin-y--not luxurious but certainly sufficient for a few friends for the weekend. There is a lot of noise leak from the outside. But we will never return, and we will caution everyone we know about this company. Please do not give this company your business.
