“very run down”

We planned a 12 day trip to the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone National Parks. Our goal was to stay in various places along our trip to reduce driving times due to the large distances withing the parks. We chose the Hatchett Resort because it was located close to the entrance of the Grand Tetons. It was a nice enough looking place from the outside, but the inside was awful. Our pillowcases were yellow/brown from age and our bed coverings were equally unpleasant. The room was full of mosquitos! If you dare step out of your car you need to run to your destination. You will be swarmed in seconds. This is the only place in the Grand Tetons that we came across like this. The motel [it is NOT a resort] needs to spray or something. We spent a great deal of time killing as many mosquitoes as we could before going to bed each night. We had booked the place for three days, because we planned on doing a lot of hiking. On our second night, we woke up to no hot water. I talked with the owner, and he said it would work later in the day. I asked if he would give a complimentary breakfast or some kind of discount and he rudely said no. The walls between the rooms are very thin and despite attempts to not be loud you will hear everything in the adjoining rooms. In addition, each time a person closed a door in adjoining rooms, the walls would shake. We never saw a hot tub anywhere. As for the sole reason for booking here, [to be close to the main entrance] it still took 35 minutes to get to the hiking areas. Yes it is about 5 minutes to the entrance, but you end up driving through the park back toward the Jackson Hole direction to the hiking areas. If you stay in Jacson Hole, you can come in on the other entrance and it takes about the same amount of time. As for Jackson Hole, it is a fun town full of very nice looking hotels, grocery, restaurants and stores. We really enjoyed touring the town. The stuff there is vastly overpriced, but the shirts are priced the same everywhere we went. There is nothing anywhere near Hatchett and you will have to drive to Jackson Hole to eat anyways. I wish we had known and would've just stayed in that area to start with. The front desk is not maintained 24/7. It seems someone is there around 7/8am to maybe 5pm. After that, you are on your own if you need something.

Room Tip: I would never stay here again. We were so displeased with our stay, that we called the company that...

“Dirty Room, Mice in the Attic”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2011

We traveled throughout Yellowstone and thought the Hatchet Resort would be a perfect lodge. What a mistake. The hotel had been renovated within a few years and could have been very nice. But, the carpet was filthy. Sand had been tracked in through the front door and they hadn't bothered to vacuum it. We requested vacuuming and after they were done it was still sandy. The shower stall had been remodeled and had nice stone tile but the soap scum stuck to it was disappointing. The mattress on the beds looked like it was from World War II and was hard as a rock. The final straw was my wife waking to the sound of mice crawling through the attic. She was awake all night listening to it. We complained the next morning and they flatly denied the room had mice. They refused to refund our money for that night or the following two nights we had paid upfront for. We checked out that morning and are still arguing with them about a refund on the remaining nights. If management spent a little more time with motel upkeep they would be in much better financial shape.

After we left we stayed at the Rustic Inn. Very nice. Log cabins, clean, no mice and luxurious. About the same amount of money. The Hatchet "motel" is a ripoff. They need new management.

Room Tip: Don't stay here. Stay at the Rustic Inn instead.

“Very Comfortable, Cozy and Pet Friendly!”

Stayed one night in a Suite. Beautiful views of the Tetons. Fantastic Big Jetted Tub. Great Big windows to let the Mountain air flow. Delightful Heated floors to warm your feet. Loads of extra blankets, pillows and plenty of towels.Pleasant staff that was looking forward to a much needed break from the busy Summer Season!
Book one of the Suite's it's worth it!

Room Tip: Book a Suite.

“Never again”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 September 2011

The Hatchet Resort is vastly over rated and over priced. Our room was not much bigger than a walk-in closet. The lone bed was tight to the wall while the opposite wall was less than 18 inches from the bed. The carpet was stained and wet and wood was rotting from a leaky shower sill. The hot tub they advertised was not working and has not been working for awhile. The WIFI signal is so weak it only works in their office. They do not provide an ice bucket or ice. What a rip off. You would be better off sleeping in a car - cleaner, bigger, more comfortable.

Room Tip: Don't stay here

“Great family hotel”

Stayed in august 2011 with family. Room was not huge but very comfortable. Looked like the bathroom was recently upgraded. The front desk staff was very accommodating and assisted us with booking horseback rides. They were also very helpful with planning our days in yellowstone. The food in the restaurant was fantastic! The brisket was great! The breakfast was reasonably priced and the portions were huge. We are looking forward to getting back to the area and will stay again.
